Water in the crankcase?

I picked up a 1996 XLT (mainly for parts) cheap over the weekend. It's rough and sat outside under a tree for years. In the process of getting it running but keep getting plugs that come out creamy white, like thin buttermilk. Pulled the crankcase drains and got some out there too. Dosent smell like coolant. What do you guys think? IMG_20160320_073407226_HDR-640x360.jpg

Sounds like moisture/water to me. Lots of condensation or rain/snow finding it's way in somehow? If you pull the pipe off, is the same goo coming out of the Y-pipe too?

Regardless if its water or coolant, if it has been sitting in the crankcase for any length of time, chances are the crank bearings are rusted/pitted. I would bet it's gona eat itself alive soon after you fire it up.

see if that milk is under the radiator cap if you got it warmed....then just like a car its the head gaskets or water pump gaskets...ive seen that gunk too but it was due to someone using stabilizer...one thing I NEVER EVER USE ANYMORE....it doesn't work IMO and gums everything up....take out choke plunger in carbs to see if green gunk on them and they sandy feeling...that's stabilizer crap

No gook on the choke plunger, no oil in the coolant.

huh?? I have been a marine technician for over 30 years and use stabil constantly....it is def not crap. when used properly it is a very good product. how exactly did you use it to come up with your results? not trying to get into an argument here, just trying to help. original post mentioned "milk" in crankcase, how would stabil in fuel system cause this??

Lol. Yeah, I left that one alone. I'm guessing tracker has had some ethanol issues and is mistakenly blaming it on stabil?

Make sure the fluid, found in the crankcase, is not gasoline.

Common for the XLT to leak gasoline into the crankcase.
Two ways of preventing this,
Turn the upstream valve to the closed position, open to run.
Replace all needle & seats with upscale Viton version.

No thought about the buttermilk, as it does not mention which plugs (crankcase or spark)

Both. Clean the plugs it starts, runs for a bit then creamy plugs. Drain the case....ditto

I've pretty much given up on this sled.I was just hoping to getting the motor running for resale value. If anyone needs parts for a 1996 XLT let me know. I'm not attached to anything. IMG_20160320_073407226_HDR-800x450.jpg

Milky would typically be water and oil. It is however a fact that needle and seats on these were a problem and should be updated! I totally agree with the above stating that if it is water in the crankcase the motor will be gone soon. Typically fuel and water will not go milky!
Best O luck but I think this motor has seen it's day!

so was there milk under the radiator cap or what? if yes then its cracked somewhere. stabil or water will cause milk issues. the stabil will be slightly greenish. sorry but no way would I ever use sea foam again....for anything...its like using MARVEL MYSTERY OIL...some things were meant to die off and that's 2 of em....its great with the old gas formula and leaded gas....but were way past those days...now its NOX ICE and PREMIUM gas into old gas that sits to rejuvenate gas molecules....heres a test...let a sled or anything with seafoam or any stabil sit 3 years...fire it up....you'll be cleaning carbs 100% of green sandy gunk....now same thing...only no stabil added....just add NOX ICE and PREMIUM (must be about half a tank new gas or more)...fire it up....she will run...no cleaning nothing....nuff said

Was there water in the airbox? I would guess it would be possible that if enough got in there, it could flow through the carbs and get into the engine that way.
