WATERSMEET - Yesterday I posted a report on the "Thunder Riders " trails which I had rode. Yesterday afternoon I was reading the MSA trail reports as to the condition of their trails that the club had reported as of the 9th. With this report in mind, last night I rode their trails again, as I was skeptical of their report.
The club reported that Trail 3N from Land o Lakes to Watersmeet was in "very good" condition. Yes there had been a groomer on that trail that could be told by how smooth it was on the sides. There was good snow and no bare spots. However the ever present moguls, cratered approaches and exits from bridges and washboard straight aways hardly grade any better than a FAIR!
Just because a club runs down a trail with a groomer doesn't mean that the trail is groomed!! Alot of groomers tell us they always need more snow to fill in the bumps......yeah, that helps ......but in order to get that trail smooth it needs to be ground down and repacked, and froze.
Watersmeet used to have some of the best trails in the U.P.. If I recall they even got "Groomer of the Year" some years back for having excellent trails. What has happened in the last 3 to 4 years? It is sad that we have to leave on a crosscountry tour across the U.P. and come back here and the trails in Watersmeet have consistently been the worst.
I realize that every club puts in alot of hard work on brushing, signing and grooming their trails year after year and we all thank you for all that hard work. But there needs to be more done in Watersmeet.
LAND O LAKES - ran into the groomer coming back from Bent's Camp 2nd night in a row! Grooming at night, cutting down the bumps.....PLEASE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND THANK YOU!!!!! Its nice to be a member of a club that cares about their trails!
