TRAIL TRUTH
WATERSMEET

Snow on trail 3N from Lando to Watersmeet was sparse on Sunday. Trail 2E Watersmeet to trail 107N sparse snow - gravel needs more snow, was a little better when we came back through on Friday.
SNOW: D GROOMING: C

IRON RIVER

Trail 107N, rough on Sunday, logging area bare, more snow than Watersmeet but could use more. We were hoping that with the new snow on Thursday that this trail would be groomed when we came back through on Friday. It was groomed, but, they didn't grind out the moguls and it was back to rough after only a few sleds.....a wasted groom!
SNOW: C+ GROOMING: D

SNO-VALLEY

Trail 8E from 107 to Sidnaw was sparse and a little rough on Sunday. When we came back Friday, there was more snow and good grooming. 10 9/8/15N to Baraga was good snow and good grooming.
SNOW: C+ GROOMING: B+

BARAGA

Trail 8E from Nestoria turn off, snow, groomed best I've seen in 10 years! Pipeline was a little bare the middle of the week. The grooming into the mountains by Nestoria was a pleasant surprise! The grooming reroute to around "Craig Lake" state park, is a good idea and would be nice if it remains permanent----THANKS GUYS!!!
SNOW: C+ GROOMING: A-

Snow around Lanse and Baraga was almost non-existent around the towns. Trail 14N to Big Bay had alot of bare spots and the logging is terrible! Mud, gravel, sand, it really couldn't get much worse and called passable.....lack of snow, logging and all the additional traffic of being the only east/west route open, have taken there toll on this trail.
SNOW: D GROOMING: GROOM WHAT?!!!

MOOSE COUNTRY

Trail 8E from middle of "Craig Lake" state park (where Baraga ends) to Champion is a "cow path" , no grooming. Bridge out. We rode the moguls for around 15 miles to avoid the extra time and mileage (if taking the north route)

Hopefully youse guys will follow Baragas good example when the bridge is done.......oh yeah.....I did see them working on said bridge!

WOW!!!! That's poor for those areas and I have not been able access since was so marginal in Vilas. Last thing I want to do is get involved in a 300 mile day in those conditions.....I'll wait....Thanks for the heads up.:)

I can vouch for the L'Anse area, low snow and the freeking logging related plowing has the trails down to nothing, to mee it will be like this as long as logging continues. Logging companies likely own the road we ride on so not really much to bitch about except I can't ride through there as I hate to put my sleds through that terrain and conditions.

Well I'm the Florence/Iron mountain area and you just took out my go to spots when I have to trailer to snow. Looks like I will have to wait to see if we get any new system snow. Lake effect only helps me when I have to trailer and even that appears to be messed up. I love running from Florence, iron river, sidnaw, L'Anse and back or the Koski corner to Big Bay or L'Anse on 14. January and February and maybe parts of March used to be the only months that were a lock to have good conditions. Now that's not even the case. I realize the off trails guys are going to be saying "there's tons up in the WUP! you just have to trailer to get to the snow!". Well so will everyone else be there and that's not for me sorry. I stay on the trails and it becomes almost dangerous when half of the Midwestern snowmobilers are in such a confined space. Fortunately I'm very busy so I'm not just sitting around waiting..but if the snow returns...I'm hitting the trails!
