Its nice to be able to keep an eye on the weather (and your place) while your not there but it is a bit of work and expense to do so. There are several options out there for you but I can only tell you about my set up which works good for me. I leave a computor running with 2 cams hooked to it via usb cables, one pointing north out a window and one pointing west out a window. The cams are just logitech quick cams which you can purchase for under $80.They capture images frequently and upload them to a website/host which I had to create (website comes free with comcast) where you can view them anywhere. The software used to trigger one of the cameras is recommended by john
kabcam and the other cam uses
webcamfirst. The software can be set for any interval you want to take pics and many other variables as well and then directs them to your website via ftp upload. I have a dsl sevice at the cabin so all I needed was a phone line to the computor for full time internet access. No matter what you do there are always glitches so the system will need a tweek now and then and that usally means a reboot or camera reset etc. This can be done remotely from home with severeal different softwares out there (I use
teamviewer free edition) to access the cabin computor remotely and fix/reset things when needed. It gives me piece of mind being able to supplement the adt security system already in place with a system I can monitor real time and actually was quite fun to set up and maintain. I hope this was of help and if you have any questions feel free to e-mail or pm me with them. You can view a sample of my set up by going to the ncn page and looking at the silver lake cam.
