For those of you who have websites (particularly business websites) that have images you or your web designer have gotten from the internet as public domain, I would urge you to take these images down and replace them with photographs you have taken.
Getty Images of California owns many of these "public domain" images, they are not watermarked and do not contain the copyright label. Getty has bots that scour websites looking for images, and if they find them they will get very threatening, demanding thousands of dollars from you.
After receiving several threatening letters from them asking for $2400, I found this site which has a lot of info.
