Next Thursday we're heading up to the western up for a 2 1/2 day motorcycle trip. We've snowmobiled the whole area in the past, but never biked it. Does anyone have some CAN'T MISS THIS destinations that we might take in while we are there? Thanks for any input.

I would go to all the places you go in the winter just to see what it is like in the summer. I'm not sure what you know already so won't rattle off all the obvious places. I would check out the following roads.

1. The Lac La Belle to Gay Road.
2. Eagle River to Copper Harbor on M26 and the Brockway Mountain lookout. Also, check out the Monk bakery.

In reply to polarisrider1 we are thinking of starting in the Lake Goegebic area. So far we had planned to go to the Lake of the Clouds and from there it is pretty wide open, I just love to ride, but I like to stop for more out of the normal type of things or places. I'm not a big tourist trap type person, we thought of stopping at waterfalls, but I'm not sure how many of those I'd want to see. In regards to mosquito's reply could you give me some basic directions and I'll see if I can work it into our plan. Thanks.

Go to Old Victoria in Rockland great old historic mining camp to wander through. It's a paved road all the way there. If you go a little further there is Victoria Dam. They have one of the large/huge old wood water pipes that is kinda cool to see how they made such a thing.

Thanks for asking, we had an excellant time. We put on 976 miles in about 3 days. We stopped in at the Mosquito for a cocktail and our motorcycle guide to the Michigan UP. Friday we drove up to Copper Harbor, stopped at the Jampot, then up to Brockway Mountain. Next we stopped at Fort Wilkens to walk around and relax, but it was sooo hot it wasn't very relaxing. I don't know how those actors could stand to be in those hot costumes when it was so hot. Our forefathers sure had it rough compared to what we have to put up with today. We then worked our way over to White Pine where we stayed the night of Friday. We stayed at Kontecka Black Bear Lodge, they treated us very well, and we had a very nice evening watching all the black bears do their thing. Then on Sat. we rode up to Lake of the Clouds which was very cool, a total contrast to how it looks in the winter which is how we've seen it on our snowmobiles. Then on to another scenic view which I can't remember it's name. Next we rode to the Presque Isle Area of the park to see a series of waterfalls that was just amazing, I think there were about 6 or 7 different falls in the vicinity," very cool". Then we started heading back towards Land O Lakes where we stayed on Thur. and Sat. stopping along the way at Krupps and Bond Falls. I now know where Mrs. Running Bear lives as we passed their establishment along the way. (We were going to stay there, but they were booked up, maybe next time after they are all done painting.) So that is it in a nutshell, we had a GREAT time and met alot of very friendly people, we also talked to many bikers who all said that they were finally there because they had the CHOICE of whether or not they would have to wear a helmet. We are planning to go back up when the colors start to change this fall, so if anyone has more ideas send a reply. Thanks for all the tips and hospitality. SNOJUNKIE
