What Happens in Vegas....

We just spent a few days in Sin City. Not a lot of sinning, but a lot of sightseeing for "Gary-in-Vegas". I'm proud to say that I didn't lose a dime at the tables, mainly because I don't gamble. (except for the Stock Market, and that's a subject for another day) We did help support the local economy with generous dollar amounts for Hotel Fee's, Hotel Tax, Ticket Surcharges, etc. All due to the fact that Nevada has no State Income Tax. And judging by the crowds, there's no shortage of revenue. A couple of pictures to share;

Surprisingly, there's "No Charge" for your picture with the Iconic Sign.
You can stand there all day long until the heat and the rattlesnakes drive you indoors!

Hockey Arena in the foreground, Allegiant Stadium (Raiders) in the distance.

One of my motivations for the trip was to see the Mojave Desert firsthand.
Coming from Wisconsin, my first thought was, "where's all the dang trees?"

Just around the bend, and at the top of my Bucket List....
the mighty, Hoover Dam. A must see when in the area.
The picture doesn't do justice to the enormous size of this structure.

Built during the Great Depression by men that made $5 a day with two days off per year.
The Tour Guide told us that the men seldom took their day off in fear that someone else would get their job!
It came in under budget and ahead of schedule.
Quite a feat considering it was a government project!

The Eight Turbine Generators that sit at the bottom of Hoover Dam.

The Pat Tillman Memorial bridge sits just downstream from the dam. The left side is Arizona, the right side is Nevada.
The bridge was constructed from each side, eventually meeting in the middle.

Here's my Mrs. on the same bridge.

Our last night in Las Vegas we had dinner at Gallagher's in the New York, New York Hotel-Casino.
I wrestled this bad boy, Bone-in Rib Eye for the better part of an hour. But I got it all down and fell asleep a happy man that night!

A good trip, met some new friends, made some memories and checked off another from my Bucket List.

Good Night from Las Vegas indeed!

Very cool! I was in the USAF and stationed there, not a great assignment when you're not a gambler lol! I did the Hoover Damn tour several times, every time family or friends came to visit me anyway, loved it! I swore I would never go back to Vegas after my time there but after some friends of ours wanted to go see Chicago perform right at the end of Covid lockdowns, I caved and went. I did not even recognize the city, I was completely lost, of course it was 1985 when I left the USAF LOL! The other that was crazy coming back was you could smell weed everywhere, not sure why people haven't switched to doing gummies instead, better for your lungs and certainly a more controlled high!

Yeah, now that we're home and had some time to get back in my routine, a few final thoughts.

Hoover Dam was definitely my favorite highlight. The Tour Guide was a local comedian with a side hustle and began the day with the following; "I want to welcome every dam one of you to this Dam tour that I do every dam day of the week".

Still on Wisconsin time, I was awake one morning by 6 a.m. Went down for breakfast, walked through the casino and there were quite a few drinking and gambling at that hour. Can't be sure if they were left over from the night before or getting an early buzz. 😵💫

I expected more of a Shock & Awe of the fellow visitors but that was not the case. Just a lot of regular folks on vacation. The streets are crowded, the money is flowing, and everyone was in a good mood.

I saw my first Driverless Car in traffic. Seemed to be doing well, flowing with traffic, changing lanes, etc. We could use that technology to keep snowmobiles on the right side of the trail. Don't you think?

I've been a fan of the "Hangover" movies. It was kinda cool to see some of the sights that were featured in a couple of those movies.

Drove past the Gold & Silver Pawn shop from the TV Show. Didn't stop, just an ordinary store front and parking lot.

The Service and Hospitality people are outstanding. Airport TSA and Security, not so much. Their People Skills need a little work.

If you go... Don't be shocked by the prices. You're not in (insert hometown here). I too, have to remind myself on vacation that I've earned it, it's not an everyday occurrence, and the vendor/business has to eat too. Remember, you can't take it with you, it's a fun place and you should see it at least once in your lifetime.
