I was looking for everyone’s input on what trail app that they like, I noticed that Polaris has a pretty decent one

I have the Polaris Ride Command loaded - it's missing at least one trail in SWMI - trail 130.
I now use a cheap Garmin Nuvi 255 and bought the Maps - doesn't rely on a Phone signal.

Polaris Ride Command and paper maps. I use the app more to track my ride so I know where I've been just in case I get lost. The app uses GPS so it does shorten battery life.

Thanks for the info guys,
I always wonder how my iPhone will last out on the trails, haven’t used it out on the trails yet,
a coworker of mine has a case that has built-in external batteries on the back side. thought that was a a neat idea to use out on the trails. I have Verizon and was told that that was the best service up there in the UP, I could be wrong I guess

My iPhone shuts off when it's in my inner coat pocket when it gets cold, usually around the single digits. Every version I've had has done so (4/5/6/7). If I wear a shirt with pockets so the phone is one thin layer from me, it's usually OK, but pretty useless to see the screen at that point.

Exact same experience here, also with several different generations of iPhones. I’d say at around 15 degrees and below they will shut down within about 30 seconds out of the pocket.

No idea what guys are doing to get better performance out of them in the cold. I’m guessing a hardline from the sled’s electrical system somewhere.

I carry my droid turbo either in a shirt pocket or my front pants pocket and get 8 hrs of use. I use it more to track my ride and use paper maps to figure out where I want to go. If I get lost, I can pull the phone out and it shows where I'm at and where I've been.

Look at redpinemapping.com they have nice trail mapping and an app for your computer
that you can download the maps to a Garmin nuvi called base camp They cover wisconsin, Minn, UP ,lower Mich and out east US Problem I encountered Garmin is too small and to dim to see in bright daylight while moving. I hooked mine to power to charge battery while running
You can either overlay the trails onto the Garmin street maps or use their entire street and trail maps I liked theirs better
The red pine mapping app costs about $30.00 I just dug out an old Garmin Nuvi 255 that I was no longer using.
The battery doesn't last long in the cold so you need to hook to power on the sled.

My riding bud has a heated handle bar bag for his phone and camera. He has it so he can also charge the phone while it in the HB bag. Very easy to do this. I can get a heated liner for my Doo "S" series glove compartment that is plug and play ready.

If you decide to try this, you will also be working with an app called Map Install, to download the maps into your Garmin, be sure to download an
old version of Map Install, 4.1.6v I think, (can be found on web) The newest version 4.2 has a bug in it that won't allow the download to the Garmin
Good Luck
