Any one know what this is? It looks like it would plug in to an old style head phone jack and has a clear lenses on the other end.

It's a 1\4" TRS connector that very much looks like it becomes a small light source when plugged in. Does it unscrew apart?

It does look like it may have a light in it and it doesn’t unscrew apart. I wonder what it's used for. It also has a ring on the end like it would be carried on a key chain.

this could be a type of kill switch thingy that needs to be plugged in to complete a circuit, we used to install these type of things in the 70's to prevent a car from starting, you just plugged it in somwhere on the dash or some-where convenient, the jack was then just carried in your pocket or on a key chain, i'm sure it would work just as well as a kill switch on a sled

I vote for Wilson's idea.

I think Russ has been sitting on his butt too long and his brain is starving for oxygen...causing him to be a menus to society, or his transponder has short circuited...one or the other.

Is Nash sick, or is he still playing plumber?
No, he's here, plumb tired o' plumbin'. Task completed though.
I was also 'plumbing' da depths of the question:
Does it unscrew apart?
Unscrew apart? Perhaps it should "unscrew together" and "screw apart"? Somethin' redundant there; maybe "Does it unscrew?", or "Does it come apart", ya think?. Picky, picky! :)
… causing him to be a menus [sic] to society …
Oh boy, bring on da menus! When do we eat? :)

Take it on an airplane and see if the TSR stops you for bringing it on the plane. Then you will know if you got something interesting.

Perhaps I should have said screw loose. I've been called that before...or something like that, the guy was really mad at the time.

I feel so accepted now, thanks frnash!

It looks to me like a Trautner resistor, which is part of the fail safe fault ciruit for a flux capacitor!

Yup, definately a Trautner resistor.

It's a "Dummie" plug that can be used 3 ways. Plug it into any electronic item that accepts a 1/4" jack, say like an amp or headphones or PA system. Its wired to loop back and create a fake load and lite the LED for testing. Also can be used as a dust cover when plugged in. Or just a cool keychain and you make up your own story every time someone asks "What is That " ?

I think Russ probably just has too much blood in his alcohol....but I'm sure there are probably plenty of folks who wouldn't dispute your theory, either! :)
