what type of garage floor coating?

Looking for opinions/experience with epoxy type coatings for my garage. Concrete is aprox 10 years old and has never been sealed, and there are a few decent size cracks in it.

I was looking at the Rock Solid product at Menards. It's a bit spendy but they claim it's stronger and lasts longer than epoxy? Curious if anyone has experience with the stuff or if there are other products I should be looking at. I have a little over 800 sq feet to do. I would prefer a one and done type application if possible. Also, can I go right over the cracks or should they be filled first?

Thanks!

Don't go to a big box store. You want to use a scull and cross bones product. Try McCann ,that's where the commercial concrete contractors buy there stuff. They have locations all over IL. It's cheaper to do it once with the good stuff, than twice with some cheap home owner stuff.

Thanks Woodtic. There is a McCann right down the road in Wauconda. Didn't even think of them! I just checked out their website. They have about 6 thousand different floor coatings available. Guess I've got some reading to do!

I would just go in there in your work truck and work close. Explain what your looking to do, after they help you pick out a product. Work on getting contractor pricing, you don't want to pay retail!

I had mine done right around this time 2 years ago by a local guy. Gave me a good price saying it was the end of season. $2100 for a 3 1/2 car garage and could not be happier with the product and the quality of work. Looks like your in my neighborhood so let me know if you want to see mine or want his number.

Thanks Banjo. My budget is pretty tight, so I'm more interested in doing it myself, if it makes sense to.

I am interested in which product you used though. How well has it stood up and do you use the garage regularly for working out of, or did you have it done more for aesthetic reasons? Personally, I'm looking for a product that can hold up to light industrial type use, without chipping or damage from chemicals, etc.

The name of the company is Prestige Polymer Flooring 203 Eastwood Ct. Port Barrington Il. 60010 847-670-2114 . Family owned company and the owner installed mine. Think his name was Jim.
Not sure of what product or brand he used but has held up well. I don't have a machine shop in my garage but work on almost anything out there and is not worn or showing any stains. I Keep it clean with Simple Green. Prestige did tell me that rust will stain the floor so keep the snowblower on a piece of plywood.
