Yep, haven't really worked on a car since my 1974 Impala... Well, little things here and there. oh well, stupid computers. who thought of putting those in a car anyway....
But, sounds like mich has his answer...
Yup, I do believe he does.
Heh zimmbob, you're lucky...
Working on cars these days really does suck. I miss the old rides a lot. My 'ol '79 Chevy K-20 was one of the best pickups I ever owned. The only electrical stuff it needed to run was an alternator, a distributor, spark plugs, and wires. Yep, those were the days.
These days, there's just so much b.s. pointless emissions garbage, and tons upon tons of electronic controls that it's absolutely rediculous.
Who'd ever have thunk it... You need an "onboard computer" adjust your fuel mixture and to control you tailpipe gasses, even to control your alternator, (which mind you, used to work fine on its own). Oh, and don't forget that sweet little computer it will turn a little light on in the dash over the slightest little danged imperfection like an random or occassional misfire or even a sticky vacuum canister purge valve thingy. Gotta purge those terrible, horrible gasoline fumes through that carbon charcoal! Yeah, I know, you are thinking, what in the heck are you talking about?! Scary to say it, but yeah, there really are such things!
What I really love is that it makes it so that you can't drive your car (legally) until you pay a whole helluva lot of money in unnecessary car repairs, and other rip-offs to please the state government. Oh yeah, and don't forget, they get their cut too!
The great on-board computers will even tell you where to go, allow you to gab uncontrollably with whomever, and then there's that whole texting crap, and a whole bunch of other crap that you shouldn't be doing while behind the wheel...
Heck, and I thought those cool little LCD tv's that guys started putting in cars and suv's years ago to show off at the car & truck shows were kinda dumb. Glad to see society trumped that pretty quickly and made things even worse.
Well, at least my farm tractors all still don't have any danged computers in them. Of course I know the "new" ones have 'em, but heck, my newest one is a 1988 and my oldest one is a 1948. Not planning on buying any new ones anytime soon either. Nothin' better than firing up an 'ol diesel tractor and rollin' some coal while out workin' a field.
I'm so happy they've finally gotten this electronic stuff into snowmobiles. No really, I am. It will put them in the scrap yards that much faster, and eventually my older sleds might actually rebound and go back up in value. After all, they have proven to be consistently more reliable and less expensive to run and maintain than these new plastic ticking time-bombs that they call snowmobiles! But, on the other hand, with the amount of money that it costs these days to register, insure, haul/trailer, fuel, oil, etc... Well, I just might not even keep any of 'em around past this next decade anyhow.
Well, sorry... looks like I got a bit off topic and went on a rant. Hey, I wouldn't want to disappoint anyone now, would I? - LOL!
Well later boys, it's past my bedtime... *yawn*
