Looking to get a GPS and download trail/road maps this year. We ride in Northern WI and the UP. Does anybody have any suggestions? I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest...I'm looking for something that works and will last.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I also am looking into getting one to mount on my sled this year.

Where do you find trail maps to download, or do you buy a disc and share it with your buddies?

I just bought a Garmin Zumo 220. I also use it for my truck.

It's made for a motorcycle and comes with the mount for the truck and the sled. It's also waterproof. I paid $400. I wasn't trying to go cheap either.

I downloaded snowmobile maps at redpinemapping.com. They had a special where if you buy a map you get another free. I got MI and WI.

Garmin "Oregon" series. I have the Oregon 200 and really like it. Bought a handle bar mount from RAM and put it right up next to the brake assembly.

Love my garmin 276 color screen that big so u can see it, buttons and not touch screen,
don't know how well touch screen would work with gloves or handle the cold.
I have my wired too the sled the batteries just don't hold up in the cold, have a ram mount for the sled
Bought red maping for it, don't go anywhere with out it.
Yes they are discontinued and the problem is the one that replaces the 276 is $200-300 more and the 276 was $350.

Think Snow!!!!

I like the Lowrance XOG. Because you can use it on your sled, motorcycle, boat and for day to day in my truck. You can buy or get free trail maps for it along with inland lakes and roads. All working together. Mine shows forest roads and streams as narrow as a foot. Color screen and touch screen. Problem is this model has been discountinued, but can be found on Ebay still.

I just got the Garmin 60csx and downloaded the maps from Red Pine Mapping. I was wondering if you guys have a mount for your sled or carry it in your pocket. I was thinking about getting a mount for my sled but not sure whats out there for a hand held gps.

Check out RamMounts. I mounted mine to my handlebar with a 4 inch extension.

Sledhead,
I have a 276c but have not used on my sled. Did you ram mount, is so, what and where? What the heck do you do with it if you make a pit stop? Nice units, but kinda big to lug around.

If you think your getting maps from RedPinemapping, contact them first with the model of GPS your considering because they are unable to download all maps to all GPS units at this time. I've been waiting for 3 weeks trying to get mine to work and at this time I'm waiting for a reply from them (4 days, no answer) for a fix.

I just bought a Garmin Nuvi 500. I bought the ram mount and a hard wire kit. I then purchased the maps from Red Pine and I had them ship me the memory card to put inside it. It looks great on the handle bars of my nytro and am gonna try it for the first time next week. The Nuvi 500 was on sale at Dicks sporting goods for 249.00 and the mount with hard wire was 80 and the maps were around 75 for Wis and MI.

I've got a Garmin Nuvo 500 with a chip for the trials and it works great. It does not allow you to plan a trip like a regular GPS does but it will tell you where you are and what trail you are on.
