Have to be in Lakeville MN next week for business and missing a day of my trip but going to drive instead of fly so I can catch up with my group. What is the best route from Lakeville to Boulder Junction? Every mapping program seems to have a different answer so I figured I would ask the experts that make the trip regularly. Thanks.

fastest route to BJ

494E to 29E to Wausau, then north on 51 thru minocqua, woodruff, and arborvitae, then veer right on CTY M to BJ.

I drive to Stevens Point every week to Lakeville. I used to have a cabin in Winter, WI, and tried many routes.

IMO: Take Cedar (65MPH) to 35E(70MPH) to 494(60MPH) to I-94(65MPH) to Hwy 29(65MPH) to Wausau, and go north on 51 (65MPH) to Tomahawk.

ALL of these roads are 4 lane divided highway with ZERO towns to drive through. From Tomahawk, its all 2 lane highways, but that will get you there the fasted and easiest.

I should note, if you set the cruise at 73, the funding units will never look at you.

I personally don't like that route, I take 64 out of stillwater into cornell then north to ladysmith, from there I head up 8 to phillips (13) I think then into park falls, go on 182 into manitowish then 51 south. I can do it in 4 hours not stopping and speeding slightly

take powell road instead of 47 to manitowish quicker yet. thats a good route if roads are clear, but 29 still quickest time and less chance of accident! just my .02 worth after many trips

Thanks guys. I think I will stick with 29 since it will be my first trip through there and it will be at night. Sounds the safest and fairly fast.

It will be. That Hwy 8 way is a pain in the you know what with all the little towns to go through.

29 is a good route, its just very straight and boring, we use to stop in wausau at the Hop and heffer or herferd and hops something like that, anyway you grill your own steaks if you want and they made their own beers. Not sure its open anymore.

fatdaddy, if you like that Cornell/Ladysmith way, try this route next time.

Take Hwy 29 to 178 in Chippewa Falls and take that to Cornell. 178 is a cool road right along the Chippewa River!

This gets you out of the cities on the freeway. I used to go this way when I lived in Winter, WI, and had to be in Lakeville every other weekend.

Thats a good way to go if its daylight and you are not in a hurry but I wouldn't take that route if you want to make good time.

I use to go that way before the re route, there was a bar on the right side that had volleyball and great hot wings before you crossed the river, 64 has been repaved and is pretty straight with less cops than 29, has some sharp turns befor you get into cornell

Agreed, just thought it was a cool road to take once in a while, some really cool scenery along there with the river close by.
