So I would like to get up to the yoop and do some four wheeling. Was hoping to beat the bugs. Atleast the nasty time for them. How are they now? In the next couple weeks? I understand the weather affects it but just wondering typically when it gets bad. I am like a magnet to them little bastards....

UP is a big place but we are on the border in Phelps & bugs getting worse everyday now. Currently ok now... not bad but when hits 70s no freezing at night look out the hatch is coming. Just a few Mayflies but look out soon will be all over everything in the evening & still days. Then horse/deer flies/black flies & the rest of the vermin. Skiters thin now so alright with them for now but lots of standing water in forest.

I was heading up to see Kip and stay in that general area. So by this weekend it will be ok but two weeks will be terrible??

Next couple weeks usually aren't too bad because the nights are still cool. After you start getting lots of warm nights everything starts coming out in swarms.

Ya Lenny I am hoping you guys can point me to some neat trails when I get up there. I was hoping to come up this weekend but not sure if that is going to work or not....

Hey I'm STILL trying to get all of the splatter off my car's front bumper / grill from the trip in May last year! Seriously early summer / late spring is the worst. I recall passing a few die hard bikers then, all of them wearing sunglasses and bandana's over their mouths. Don't recall seeing much traffic either, so actually if you can deal with it, I imagine you would have the trail system to yourself.

Trails don't open till the 15th. So I guess you'll have to hang in there till then. We are also planning a trip and had the weekend of the 14th locked down until I found out the trails are still closed. Not sure why they open on a Sunday of all days.

Central U.P. where I am (20 mi. south of Munising) most trails are on public lands and thus always available. Yesterday hit the mid 60's and I saw the first couple of black flies outside the house. Today's supposed to be in the 70's so as to beating the bugs? Too late<g>. ;)</g>

I dunno man but this is mid/late summer and we went miles and miles....notice.....no bugs on camera lens....the whole ride....no bandanas over face either....dust not too bad and we were flying every where....IMO only time they are ever bugging you is when you stop....go for it....and have fun
