The winner of a Google project to showcase their Dataviz technology was a project called "Where did my taxes go?" Not only is the technology cool, but so is the project.

Here is one for ya...

Gas Tax - $0.19 + 6% sales tax for Michigan at $3.99gal = $0.43gal in tax for Michigan alone. Add the $0.18 from the fed, its now $0.61gal X 24 gal (my tank) divide that by 19 miles per gal its $0.03 per mile in tax. I have a 140,000 miles on my truck. That’s $4,200 dollars in tax I never knew I paid.
