As far as I know, (the locals will correct me if I'm wrong) pools are basically non-existent north of Calumet in the winter. Hot tubs are fairly scarce as well.

Over the years I've stayed at the Mariner North, The Pines, and the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge in Copper Harbor but my first choice by far is the Lac La Belle Lodge in Lac La Belle (about 10 miles from Copper Harbor if you didn't already know).

The LLB Lodge (laclabellelodge.com) has cabins in your price range, gas on the premises, a great bar and outstanding restaurant for lunch, dinner, or a late evening hunger attack. They also have a pretty well stocked store and off-sale. They don't serve breakfast but the cabins have full kitchens if you're inclined to cook something. There is no pool or hot tub but that is pretty much the norm up there. I've found the variety of their menu to be more than adequate for our stays but the Mariner and Keweenaw Mountain Lodge also serve food. I think the Pines may serve some food but I can't say for sure.

Hopefully this will be helpful.

(I forgot to add that the LLB Lodge is literally on the trail)

Yep, no pools or hot tubs north of Calumet. The cabins at the Mariner North have whirlpool tubs, but that is it. The Pines used to have a hot tub, but new state regulations will not allow it any more. The Pines also has food.

The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge is going back to being closed in the winter. Last day open for the season is in mid to late October.

I've always had good luck staying at a small cabin with heated floors at The Mariner North. Good bar and restaurant and massages available in 20 minute increments. I think she charges a $1 a minute and it can feel great after a long day of riding.

LLB is nice too and in a neat location. I don't think you would go wrong with either. It's exciting to be planning trips already!

Saber1,

MI has some odd laws but I don't think there is a law that you can't have a hot tub or pool north of Calument :)

It's more a matter of cost and demand. Just maintaining a hot tub is expensive and the cost of a pool is prohibitive for what are almost exclusively locally owned businesses. What is surprising is that there is also a lack of saunas (or as the fins say it: "sounna"). In my opinion, a good sauna serves the same purpose as a hot tub and is a whole lot cheaper to maintain. Also, don't discount the massage, which no one ever told me about.

You never indicated whether or not you have visited the area before but based on your query I assumed you had. If not, you're in for a treat. If so, I don't need to remind you.

A heads up on U.P.pools and hot tubs, after extensive research, there are EPA, Health Dept. and building codes that take a lawyer to figure out as well as engineers. We were hoping to have a commercial hot tub ready for this season but it looks like there will be a delay, after seeing the costs involved $15,000 to $20,000. Would this be a postive for you folks, input would be appreciated. What other ammenities would you like to see at a resort ?
