Whats the deal with this? NOthing even forcasted. I guess my old saying of UP always has big snow is going right out the window this year..... More on the ground here at home than up there. That is strange....

I'm not sure if LES can be forecasted, since it is not part of a weather system. I would tend to believe that when John predicts it, it is an educated guess based on wind patterns and many years of 1st hand experience in the area?

Actually, most of the models are able to pick up on the potential for LES. Some are much better than others. However, the main challenge to the models is what you hint at here. It happens on such a small scale, that the models typically just give a general idea on things and do not pick up on exact amounts or placement very well. It is incredible how totals can differ in just a few miles with a LES event.
