A few of us are thinking of moving to Colorado and would like to go riding and exploring. Tell me where you thing we should go and ride and visit for our first time there. We are ridding renegades 600 one efi and one carb. PS we plan to take our own machines.

Have gone to Steamboat Lake, north of Steamboat springs, the last two years. The trails that head out of there in a few directions, are very good, and there is lots of stuff to hit right off of the trails. They lead to "parks" that you can then go ride. Big Red, Little Red, California, and others. I'd suggest there. You can stay at the Hahn's Peak Roadhouse (formerly Steamboat Lake Outfitters). Or there are some home rentals right in the area via VRBO.com. They have gas, food, music, a small store, etc. We had a great time there. Heading to WY this year...

So, you and the boys just gunna up and move? If that's the case I would (all) secure jobs there first. Sell your treail sleds and buy Mtn. Sleds. I sugest you research on a western sled site where you can gain vast amounts of info. Also google Colorado.

No more FIB's allowed in CO... we hit the limit approximately 11 months ago.:p

If you're trying to figure out where to live... that hugely depends on what you want. If you're a citiot, and you want to be in a big city, Denver is the only place that fits the bill. If you want to be rural and closer to riding, there's many options up & down the front range or over on the west slope.

Where you live also hugely depends on what you do. I'm an estimator & work from home, so I live in the mountains & have VERY little need to go to the chity, but if you're job is downtown... that commute can be hellish.

if I were you, I'd try to avoid the obvious here in CO. EVERYONE knows about Denver, EVERYONE knows about the ski areas. Our local ski pass is called the EPIC pass... otherwise know as Every Prik In Colorado. You don't need to be near the ski areas & hordes of A holes driving to them, so avoid it if possible. Fort collins gives you options of the snowies, and a few areas around here, and has zip for traffic.

Junction is close to the Grand Mesa, GREAT riding, and lots of fun, but is hotter than **** in the summer (desert) but if you bike, wheel or other sports, it's close to Moab, and has tons of fun stuff of it's own too. Gypsum is another cool area, same for Glenwood springs... and both are far enough along 70 to avoid the hordes.

Lots of options here, but my one main advice, look past the areas where everyone else is.

Kaleb

Oh... and carbs are so 1973... get an efi sled. We've got this thing called elevation gain here in CO.

We had someone call us FIB's in Michigan what is the technical term? To be honest he used the term in a derogatory way so as of now I'm not sure I like the term!

PS thanks for the info big time we are for sure country folks and want to ride out of our back door and live in woods and mountains. We hate traffic and lots of people. I write bids for my job commercial, state and federal life safety work. So I can work from home just need to find the right company to work for so I can have a solid company to work for.

Give me an idea where you would move if you had your choice. PS we also ride four wheeler's and do some boating but snowmobiling and snow is our biggest concern.

PS obviously you can see im old school with a carb 600 renegade. I would like to get me an e-tech soon but my carb machine out runs my friends 2010 600 renegade and has over 9000 miles. Hard to replace or fix something that is not broke.

If you are mainly trail riders, might want to look into the Grandby area.

Just a heads up, most of the civilization out west is in the valleys (lower elevations) and most of the riding is in the higher elevations. So the options to be able to " ride out of our back door" are pretty limited. Not non-existent, just very limited. Most riding out west involves some form of trailering, be it 10-15 minutes up the mountain or an hour or more to get from some kind of municipality to the riding area.

Also be sure to make note of wilderness areas closed to any motorized vehicles. More and more popping up out west every year.

If I had my choice, I'd move down south. Near Wolf creek pass, or near Montrose, or near gunnison. They tend to get more snow, they tend to get it sooner.

FIB... that's an F'in Illanoise Bastird! My whole family is from NW burbs of Chicago (heading back there next week actually) so I embraced the term early :D

If you're an estimator, honestly if you're serious about moving, keep in touch with me. I do large scale commercial work here in the mountains, I know most of the commercial estimators for the GC's I deal with (I'm 05400, 09250 & 09500, and we also do steel trusses) I might be able to help you find work.

The Big players around here are pretty limited (a few are in Junction where riding is 50 mi away, but there's TONS of other stuff to do as well, and it's year round), and not sure most would allow telecommuting, I'm very lucky to work for who I do, but it's possible, especially if you're in a market they don't have anyone in. Where I'm at, I'm 5-10 min from riding, but I'm also on the corridor where the citiots clog the **** out of it every weekend, I LOVE where I am, but if I were to do it again, I'd have avoided the 50 miles of I-70 from Denver to Vail.

Like John said, not much riding from home, but easy enough to find property that's where you want to be other than that. Places where you can ride from home will likely be poorly maintained roads that you don't really want to live on around here.

Oh and "ain't broke" will change when you get here. Some folks come here thinking they want to ride trails, that changes in about a week. Nobody rides trails that lives here, ESPECIALLY down in those areas.

The Granby/ Grand lake area has a rice trail system too, but it's just access to ride the real stuff. That said, you can still have a blast on a short track, I ride a 141 (boosted) every day & love it, a 16x 136 would be a blast too!

I was going to mention the south like Wolf Creek. Last time I was in Pagosa Springs, it seemed like a nice little town. Had most of what you needed, but far from any big city and the big city life. Durango a nice town too. Just not sure of what there is for riding as you head north over Rd Mtn Pass and up towards Silverton. TONS of snow in the areas just south of Silverton. Buena Vista probably would have been good until Burandt got there. Now he'll have the whole area tracked up! :)

Good riding around Silverton, but areas are small and mostly above tree line. A little to open for my taste. Also major avy risk in the area. I like Wolf Creek a lot more. There are sqome spots close to Durango to ride also, but again very small areas.

A good friend of mine from high school lives in Gunnison, he loves it there. Not sure about job prospects there though, he just does what ever he needs to do, whether it be construction, working at Cressted Butte, or working at a liquor store.

That's what happens when losers from Columbia County move to CO... just all sorts of fail:p Even worse than a FIB if you ask me!!!

You need to come visit him Skylar... the riding down there is friggin EPIC. Kebler has some of everything, from HUGE open bowls, to cliff drops everywhere, to miles & miles of tree riding, it's my favorite place to ride in CO.

Buddy of mine at Kebler pass... SPECTACULAR place.

He keeps telling me to get out there and see him LOL. Maybe March of 2014 we will go to CO instead of WY for our trip. My good buddy that farms in Caledonia township, his best from high school lives just north of Denver, he and his brother usually ride the Snowies, or Grand Lake. That above pic is awesome by the way!
