Who rides in the Central Yoop?

We're going to start building a cabin in the next month and hopefully it'll be finished by spring. It's south of Wetmore about half way between Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.

Do any of you guys ride that area frequently?

Some friends and I do get down that way every other year or so.......from Nestoria/Ishpeming area. nice riding down by Newberry/Seney when the snow is good. Generaly on our way to Paradise or the Sue.

We ride out of the Little Lake/Gwinn area. I think the Central Yoop is some of the best riding around, mostly because when the snow is good alot of people stay in the Lower or dont go past the Eastern part and people coming from Wisconsin stay in the Western part, so traffic is always sparse and the trails dont get so torn up. In other words, nobody wants to drive their hauling rigs farther than they have to, so the Central always seems to have less traffic.

Hey, Polarice, I just noticed your profile said you're from Elmore - I'm from Woodville (or halfway between the two). Small world, eh?

We ride up there once or twice a season, in Wetmore twnsp off FFH13. It's nice, like ohiosledder said, not as torn up

It is a small world! I just moved here from Fremont.

Looking forward to doing some serious riding this year in the Central UP. Perhaps we can meet up and take a trip up there. I have a 2 place enclosed and a full size truck.

We'll definitely have to meet up...we usually get up there 2-3 times a season, sometimes more. Who knows, maybe we'll get to do some riding around home this year.

central up

I was there two times last season love the trails there the ride to big bay is very good. We stay at the Red Fox in cheap rooms and good bar and restu

Thats our groups favorite place to ride. Heading to Au Train for Christmas /New Years and hope one more trip to the UP for the year. Love the Central Up, good restaurants and good trips to take the kids and parents on.

I read somewhere that the Melstrand store is open with gas. Can anyone confirm that?

melstrand store was still closed and up for sale when i was up in august. not sure if its changed. we are up there riding atleast 4 times a year, big trip over xmas and new years.

Melstrand is open again. Opened a few weeks ago. I was up there on the ATV's. I usually get up riding in that area four or five times a year. Last three years put 2000 miles each year riding off trail. No exactly where you are at. Riding is great. You can make it all over from there on all the county roads and Fire Trails. Plus some extra trails that you are in my GPS!

Thats a great area to ride, make it there 2-3 times a year. I think our first trip this year will be there. We normally stay in Wetmore.

Polarice trail 7 is right near that intersection 440/ffh13 . Always is nice when I have been on it. I like riding this loop from wetmore taking trail 8 west to trail 7 south to manistique pick up trail 2 back north to trail 41 up to trail 8 back to wetmore. Good luck with the cabin

When in the central up go to the scupture park and the old jets at Sawyer air force base

I sure hope you get it up and framed in before the heavy snow starts in Dec.
We have been riding the Munising area since 1980.
We get up there every other week starting with New Years.
Ride during the week when there isn't much traffic.
On the weekends its very crowded and the trails get rough by mid day.
