I'm happy for you guys, but we won't all be riding from home.

I know I'm looking at the Sparta, Black River Falls area for this weekend.

Its snowing already here!!!! I bet we got 3 inches already. I didnt' think it was gonna start till tomorrow.... I had a guy trim my trees in my yard today and now I wood and branches all over the place!!!! Benefits outway the downfalls!!! Bring on the SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
During that period groomed trail riders wanted perfectly groomed trails at the end of a sparse snow season & many thought big snow was the answer. I was riding those trails while the snow was falling & it was indeed very difficult trail conditions. 1st try I could not even reach the trails too much snow in the road to get there & soaked by snow over the windshield in 2 miles. Stand in front of a ski hill snowmaking machine for 20 minutes & you will get an idea of what it was like.lol Then we probably had 26" of ungroomed snow on trails & all put powder machines were getting stuck big time & very difficult to get unstuck & get rolling again. As some sleds made it thru the trails we had a 1 track down the middle of trails which was Aok but sure not a groomed trail. Groomers that could get out did their thing & conditions improved but then it was Saturday & everybody & I mean everybody came to the WI northwoods to ride the big snow. So now you have very heavy traffic big snow & limited grooming so what you get is big bumps & a groom that will not hold & pissed off people that were very fustrated with conditions. I sat the weekend out as I recall just too much traffic to be fun on ruff trails. So yes there can be too much snow at 1 time to have good conditions. If it does snow big time Thursday/Friday at this stage of the trail grooming season the groom will never hold. IMO this is early season riding conditions & by all means ride the trails if open but impossible to have perfect conditions just take good with bad & have fun. Funny thing is I recently traded trail war stories regarding that day with George at Lando Rec & we both had to abort rides due too much snow! Just ride & hope for the best is best advice for any big snow & much better than riding your recliner at home.

Oh ya I am well aware of that!!!!! Total of about 5 inches here in Caledonia MN!!!!! They said an inch and we got 5. Does that mean if they say 6-12 it will be 2 feet???? Rock On!!!!!!!!!!
It was a blast! One picture was my trailer "grooming" the driveway. Then my business partner getting stuck trying to get sled out of garage. Then a nice drift on my other partner's yard.....

Our groomers should be all ready to be started up (especially with no use last year). Depending on the storm track, my dad (our club's trail boss) will probably be getting the Tucker out of the barn tomorrow night and hooking up to the drag, otherwise Thursday morning assuming the storm doesn't miss us. Have yet to see a storm in which we said "too much snow," although the storm two Decembers ago took us a while to catch up too. Part of our trail system runs on a east-west railroad grade, and in this one section there were 10 foot wall drifts (10 feet of snow next to bare gravel). The Tucker, not even pulling the drag, was working hard not to get stuck in that section. (And anyone who has driven a Tucker knows how versatile they are.) Regardless, always makes for great memories. Cannot wait to get home Friday evening assuming the storm predictions hold. Let it snow!
I remember that storm of 2 Decembers ago. My dad and I also got stuck in the Tucker in about a 6'-8' deep drift. We knew it was going to bad in that area so we left the drag by the road and went in with just the Tucker and still had trouble. We were able to shovel it out enough to get out and through the drifted area and back to the road. Later that day a guy from the club came with his bulldozer and pushed a bunch of the snow off the trail. So it is possible to have to much snow at one time, especially if it is windy.
