wind chill

So I hope this is not a dumb question but, a friend asked me today what decides if the snow melts. The wind chill or the actual temp. For example today it was 34 degrees but the wind chill was 22 degrees. In that case does the snow melt or stay frozen? Hope that is not to confusing.

praying for some snow...!! Nick

The wind chill only effects your skin temp I believe. Any time the temp is above 32 the snow is going to melt, even if the wind chill is below zero.

Yep, wind chill does not impact snow. When temps are above freezing, snow will melt, no matter what the wind chill is.

In fact, if anything, stronger winds could lead to faster evaporation rates.
