Wiring an amp in my side by side - Help

Howdy,

I might as well beg for some help here. I have bought a pyle hydra 2 channel amp for my side by side. The amp for the most part is clear to get set up. the only question I have is a blue wire that says to remote switch.

here is a link to the amp I bought and you can click on wiring diagram.

It is couple with the power wire. There is a red (power wire), black (negative to battery), then blue (says to a remote switch.) I could see a switch to break the power but if the red is hooked up from the battery to the amp it will have power and then wouldn't be cut off from a in line switch on the blue wire.

any experts here to help a novice?

I would be very happy with a bit of advice.

It's probably wired like a 3 way switch in your house, made that way for easier installation. You can have a nice short thick wire to draw from the battery and a smaller wire to run for an easy access power switch that is further away. But I am just guessing here.

I agree with renegade, amps require a large power draw hence a large hot lead to the battery. The smaller gauge switch wire makes it easier and less expensive to make a longer run to your switch, also most head units will have a blue lead to connect too so the amp will power up automatically with the head unit.

The red is the main power line and the blue is the remote power that hooks up to any power supply (usually a blue wire off the back of the radio) that is powered only when the vehicle is on. Since the red needs to hook right to the battery, I would advise putting a toggle switch in and connect the red and blue wire to that. Otherwise, you may be draining the battery. When you turn the vehicle on, turn the amp on with the toggle switch.
If I was there to see the wiring on the vehicle, I'm sure I could come up with a better solution but...

Not sure what SxS you have but if its a polaris, hook the remote wire up to the orange with white stripe wire under dash.

The remote switch is used to turn the amp on and off. The best way to hook it up is to connect it to a wire that is switched with the key. That way, when you turn the ignition off, you cannot drain the battery if you forget a toggle switch or whatever else you hook it to. The only downside to that way is, the key must be on for the amp to play. Usually not a problem, but on poo rzr the tail lights are on with the ignition.

If you are using a car radio, hook the remote wires to a wire that is run by the key such as a cig lighter or if they have an accessory wire somewhere.

I just put a 1280 watt class D digital amp, 4 mid bass 6.5" speakers and a 10" subwoofer in my RZR. All in fiberglass enclosures. Not using a radio, running it all off MP3 or my phone. I think I went a little overboard, but it's loud. I did put in a much higher capacity battery.

What SxS are you doing this in? Using a Radio or right off a mp3/iPod?

I have a poo xp4 900. I bought this plug and play amp from pyle to run off of my iphone. I have a couple of things i could tap into I guess. The winch switch is on the dash as well as the cig lighter plug thing.

sound ok?

Exactly, you do not want to chance leaving anything on if the key is not on. This is going in his RZR & I am certain he will run radio, iPod & stream from his iPhone. Good thinking on the higher capacity battery as well. I added a second battery connected in parallel as I had the space to mount the additional battery, makes for less drain when I am running the stereo, winch for plow, auxiliary lighting and flashing beacon.-Mezz

The "cig lighter plug thing" is an accessory plug, I strongly recommend you do not try to insert a lighter unless you want to see the dash melt.-Mezz

I would use the orange wire with white stripe, that is under dash near cig lighter(accessory plug). It should have a bullet connector on it. It is an accessory wire and is fused in fuse box. Thats the wire I used.

yeah my stock POS battery only lasted 1.5 years. So I bought a Odyssey battery. When I was hooking up my system and fine tuning it, I probably has the music on for 3 hours without ever starting the engine. Alot of that time the sound was WOT. I am very impressed with the battery. But it wasnt exactly cheap either. $165 shipped IIRC.
I have a winch, system, and HID headlights. I probably wont add much more on this rzr. But my next one will be a 4 seater and Ill probably add another odyssey to that one.
