We a re starting the debate, Where to go for the summer vacation next year. we thought about wisconsin dells but my biggest fear is spending big $$$ to go there and standing in lines all day because of all the people. We went to St. Ignace mi last year and loved it. 2 forts, mackinac island, tequamenon falls, Soo Locks and petosky state park all within an hours drive. But don't want to do the same thing twice.....soooo......Where is your suggestion?

We had originally planned to do the dells this last summer but as we were getting closer to our trip date my wife and I really decided we didn't want to go there. So we went to Breckenridge CO instead. The kids were complaining all the way out there about not going to the dells but as we went through Denver and started heading up into the mountains it was exciting to listen to their comments. We had a great time, kids loved it. We went rafting, horseback riding, caving, sight seeing. It was a great summer vacation, even stayed an extra day because we didn't want to come home!

If you want to stay closer to home have you ever been to MN north shore? Lots of state parks to visit, hiking to do, things to see. Let me know if you need any info for that area.

Nothing is cheap in the Dells but during the week no lines. If you want to have fun in the Dells you have to open your wallet. Plenty to do day & night but costs are high. Just the way it is now big buck vacation location but travel costs low if you live in Midwest. The Ducks, TB Ski & Sky Show, River Boat Ride, Roller Coasters & thrill rides, Endless waterparks & other amusements. Down town shops & casinos too. Search the Dells on the net see all the stuff to do.

Another thought I should have mentioned in my first post is Door County, WI. We went there last summer (2010) for our vacation and had a great time. Lots of things to see and do, beaches to hang out at, go into Green Bay and take the Lambeau Field tour and go through the Hall of Fame, visit orchards and vineyards.

We went this year on July 5th to the 9th (Tuesday to Saturday) Tue. was busy, Tue. night less busy, Wed was dead till about Thur. noon, then picked up from there Fri. night and Sat. were of course the busiest. My kids are all under 8 so we were able to just stay a Chula Vista Resort 99% of the time.
When I was booking the price points changes were around mid June, then July 10 to end of August. The first price change was only up a few bucks a night the July to Augusta time was the highest.

Also we really liked Chula Vista Resort but have like the Wilderness the best so far.

Personally from a money saving point of view, I felt like the Wilderness was the best value in the off season. We went in April about 2 year ago, with 3 other families and split 2 condos. I think gas and food for 3 nights was around 350 each family for the weekend. Also the water coaster at Chula Vista Resort was cool and fun for the kids and adults.
