Wisconsin snowmobile safety team reactivated

Wisconsin has recorded at least four snowmobile fatalities in 2010, bringing the winter total to nine, according to the Department of Natural Resources.

Two of the fatal accidents in the new year occurred in northern Wisconsin, both on New Year's Day.

A Wisconsin man, 27, was killed in a 1 a.m. accident in the town of Fifield, Price County, when he fell off his snowmobile and was struck by a sled driven by his companion, who was following from behind, according to a DNR report. Speed and alcohol were listed as factors in the accident.

A 12:55 a.m. accident in Oneida County's town of Pelican resulted when a group of six snowmobilers were riding on a shoulder of a state highway against traffic.

A motor vehicle hit the first three snowmobiles head-on, killing the first rider, a Wisconsin man, 42, and injuring three other people on the next two snowmobiles. Alcohol and illegal operation on a highway are listed as factors in the crash.

safety team

whitedust is correct, they move around from town to town on the weekends in the northwoods. when they set up the stops, they will write you for a rolling stop sign to a non viewable sticker, and also write you for pipes. this weekend i would guess ER because of the derby. and they like minq during the ice drags. I do not have a problem with them doing there job, but not sure how many life's they are saving at noon on a sat in town.
I know some people dont like to here this, they would be better off keeping people from getting on sleds at last call at 2am.

be safe

Yup, happend to me three years ago in minq during the ice drags weekend. We rolled through a stop sign coming off of the lake..the trail doesn't even cross the road, just runs along the side. they followed us back to the cabin and nailed us there.
