Won't Do That Again...

Doing some minor maintenance on the Blizzard today. In removing the Trail Pass, it left some residue behind. No problem, I'll just use a dab of Goof Off. WRONG! As you can see by the pic, it not only removed the residue but left a cloudy area at the bottom of the windshield and it appears to be permanent. Tried a couple of things to restore it, no luck.
Not to bash the product, I've used it many other times with good results but it sure screwed up my windshield today. No cautionary mention of this in the directions either. For a better look, hover your cursor or click on the photo.

Learned that it is not a good product for screens years ago taking off race numbers from one of my sport bikes.
Now I am just plain scared of using it.
WD40 does the job just fine.

Try toothpaste or those auto headlight polisher kits. Have never tried the toothpaste, got that from internet. A friend had one of those polish kits and said it worked well. As always suggested, "lightly" put it on and take off.

I am not familiar with goof off. Did it smell like nail polish remover? If so, then it probably contains mostly acetone which will do that to the plastic. It could have also been methylene chloride or a few other organic solvents which are also not compatible with many plastics. In general plastics and organic solvents don't play well together.

You could use sticker savers from Up North products. Next time so you don't have that almost permanent adhesive on your plastics.
You put the trail pass on their sticker which has a releasable/ reusable adhesive. With a little heat and careful you can re-attach to a new windshield in the event you break yours during the season.
This may not be completely legal, as most trail passes have an instruction line stating something like
[ must be attached by its own adhesive ]
99.9% of the time DNR is only looking if trail pass is there, not how its put on. Location is usually not an issue either, again as long as you have it.

I bought the sticker backers from them and needed more. Called them and got a call back from the owner. He said they don't sell them any longer and also that they had a company produce them just for them. It could be no one else has or will offer these.????
He sent me a bunch free of charge.

Just a heads up, Their main product line is a superior line of adaptable brackets the will allow Doo Linq luggage system to attach to many other sleds.

Up North technologies gets a big thumbs up from me. The LinQ system is top notch as well.
Kinda happy with the 2021 Poo Matryx storage front and back.

This will amaze you as well....Polaris is shadowing Doo and we all need to be glad they is. Like the democratic prez. offerings the sled manufacturering line up is dwindling.

To the OP...elbow grease and an automotive headlight polish will bring that plastic back to a shine.

Thanks for the advise, guys. My purpose of posting was to prevent anyone else from doing the same thing. Again, I've used this product before without any issues and hindsight being 20/20, my trusty can of WD40 was on the shelf right next to this stuff.

I picked up one of the Lens Renewal kits and I'll give that a try and let you know if that works.

Good as New! The Headlight Polish kit worked like a charm. Less then $10 at Wally World, made by Turtle Wax. As aforementioned "a little elbow grease" and follow the instructions. I would recommend it.

Congrats. BTW, this method can work for lightly scratched faceshields if you have the patience.

Great responses, I like reading what others have tried and the results. Now, for another problem...any quick fixes for those double layered face shields that need cleaning between the two layers? Anyone ever taken one apart? I have a couple that need cleaning or replacing, but I can't find any replacements because of their age. Suggestions other than tossing them out???
