Hopefully others will chime in. 120 in both isn't that bad. Some would still consider that good psi. You are right about the piston skirts breaking. I had "a" piston skirt break with 9500 miles on a polaris 1987 trail. I was lucky enough that it blew out the exhaust and didn't fall in the crank case and seize up the motor or do more damage. IMO, if I had the extra money laying around I would do a complete top end rebuild. To hone the cylinders and buy a piston kit isn't too expensive.

I have a 98 XC600 with almost 16K miles on it and it's never been apart, I say if it ain’t broke don't fix it. A friend of mine has over 17K miles on his 99 XC 500; I’m going for 20K.

Your pistons skirts break due to the excessive piston to cyl. clearance. Listen to the motor, if it doesn't sound as if the pistons are rattling around making noise then your ok. I have buddies with 13 and 15000 miles on these motors and never been apart, and they still run very strong. Just my .02
