What kind of riding are you looking for? I can give you more specific recommendations.

Here are a bunch of singletracks that are fun for mountain biking:
Central Wisconsin:
Wausau - Nine Mile recreation area
Merrill - Underdown
Minocqua - Raven Trail

UP Michigan:
Greenland - Adventure mine trails
Houghton - Michigan Tech trails
Hancock - Churning Rapids
Calumet - Swedetown trails
Copper Harber - http://www.copperharbortrails.org/ - IMBA Epic and IMBA ride center - Best riding in the midwest
Marquette - South Trails

I guess I'd need a variety to please the whole family.
I like to ride hard and fast, but on the same trip I would need a place for my kid and wife to be able to ride also. The CopperHarbor trails look like something I would like.
I'm also looking at the LaCrosse/Genoa area, free lodging there...

- Last night I made the move, Ordered a Specialized Carve 29. This is coming off a 14 yrold ridged GT. I kept the bike budget a bit lower because the owner talked me into getting the bike fitted to me, and going to better peddles and shoes.

That specialized looks like a very nice bike. Should be a big upgrade ;)

I have never ridden in the LaCrosse area, but have heard there is some good riding. I would highly recommend Copper Harbor if you can make the drive. I have never heard of anyone going there to ride and not being totally thrilled!

For the LaCrosse are this is what you need to check out, great skills area here too..

And if heading to LaCrosse depending which way you go you could stop in Eau Claire - there is Lowes Creek county park on the south side of town. There are trails for everyone and a small skills area. Also the North West Park on the the north side of town (harder to find, but I can give directions) Or in the Neilsville area there is Levis Trow which is a bit more challenging with all the hills
