Well I just bought my first non-Artic Cat sled since 1974! It is a 08 Vector. Not trying to start a sea and snow thread here but, what kind of engine oil are you Yamaha guys and gals using? Yamalube or something else?

0W-30 Yamalube semi synthetic is what we use in the shop. Some guys like 0W-40 Yamalube and we put that in upon request. Hope this helps. Kip

Using M1 0-30 full syn since 500 mile break in now @ 10K miles no problems what so ever. From all I have read any 0-40 full syn may bring your RPMS down a little lower your top end mph a bit. No magic oil for Yamaha 4s use what you want 0-30W is spec.

Yamaha Oil

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I will stick with the Yamaha oil. Problem is the dealer is about fifty miles away. Guess I can stock up heading north this year. And yes I hear that Yamaha makes a great motor. Thanks Guys. But wait! Doesn,t the new Viper look a little like a cat? (had to throw that in)

How far from Walmart to buy full syn M1 0-30? :) By all means support your Yamaha dealer but no magic oil for 4s snomo engines with 12,000 mile filter change. Although I do my change my filter every season not necessary but I do it anyway. You are way over thinking this oil thing. Go to TY most use M1 full syn oil easy to get & not expensive. Nothing at all wrong with using 0W-30 Yamalube semi synthetic but why do you think you need too?

I am not trying to over think it; just did not know. This is my first 4 stroke and want to get ready for the season soon. Sounds like I should pick up a spare quart and a couple of filters and that should last me a while. The sled I bought has 108 miles on it so the next oil change won't be for a while. Thanks for all the great feedback.

Now that is a competely different situation you are not broken in yet! Go 500 miles change oil & filter using 0W-30 Yamalube semi synthetic. Then at the end of seaon figuring you will put on 2500 miles change oil to M1 0-30 full syn. You don't want to use the best oil when breaking in semi synthetic is best for that but later full syn is better wearing oil & your engine will last longer using full syn. You will know when fully broken in the engine will be quicker & your MPG wil improve. Took me about 2200 miles until my engine settled in & I started using M1 0-30 full syn at that point.

In Canada, Imperial Oil Co. (ESSO) manufactures the Yamalube brand on behalf of Yamaha Canada and in the USA CITGO makes Yamalube on behalf of Yamaha US

Am I the only one that would change the oil and filter now since it hasn't been done since the sled was new in 2008? It may not be necessary, but I would do it anyway.

He is fine for now oil & filter but needs to be changed after 500 miles going to be break in metal & worn oil at that point in oil filter. With 108 total miles this engine is like new very tight so current oil will be fine & should not take long to reach the 500 mile mark then for sure the oil filter & oil needs to be changed. You don't need the best oil when breaking in a 4s or won't break in.

eao,

That is incorrect information on Yamalube oil. Years ago Yamalube was made my Citgo. It is now produced by Nippon which is a company that Yamaha has stake in. They have a refinery here in the U.S. which is were it is produced. Yes Nippon is a Japanese company. Essentially Yamaha is producing their own oil here in the state. Thanks, Kip
