Yamaha Hyfax wear?

I have read here on JD and TY that Yamaha hyfax wear fast at first then do not seem to wear as fast after that.
I am seeing wear in the front of the hyfax along the up radius, down to about 1/16" from the mark. The rest of the way back looks very good. Is the wear in the front where others are seeing them wear fast, then stabilize?
The machines are 2011 Vector LTX's.
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you're getting a lot wear along the front radius, your track is too tight. I have a 2007 Rage, forerunner to your sled, and I have to run the track quite a bit looser than the yamaha spec. No ratcheting problems and the hyfax wears more evenly.

These sleds DO burn through the first 1/3 of the hyfax quickly. I never had a problem with hot hyfax before getting the rage. Added the SLP buttons on the closed windows and that has helped some.

I added the marginal snow wheel kit at the bend up front and it helps alot! I also had to add another set at the rear of the skid about 1 foot from the end of the rail. Pretty much all Yamaha 4 strokes I ride with eat slides and had to add either over sized wheels or marginal kits otherwise the slides only make it 300 miles..

my 07 mt lite wore fast and than slowed greatly, took 2 years to wear them down. most people think they'll go all the way at first but they do slow considerably

I was also very concerned about the initial wear but was told to ignore it and that was the best advice i have ever gotten. The first 300 miles it wears fast but then wears very slow after that. I now have 1400 miles on the second set of slides. I was also freaked out on the wear on the first set that i replaced them at 100 miles. That was a mistake. Do loosen the track some though they are too tight set at dealer. At 1500 miles they seem to stop wearing.

Lenny,
Did they wear on the front radius?

I can't remember it being so much on the front radius but more so on the middle, I think, it's been 2 seasons sill I sold that sled but I did not replace them and they slowed way down. I sold the sleds with 4800 miles and was on the second set. This was the Mtn Lite phazer 07 model with the larger lug track

Make sure your track isn't too tight. My last set lasted 4,000 miles. (06 Apex RTX) with NO extra wheel kit.

Track could be a bit tight but yes the wear sounds normal then stops. Keep an eye on it but all I would do unless you are riding in skimpy snow conditions.

I don't think the wear is as bad on a mono skid suspension compared to the proactive skids. The mono seems to do alot better on hyfax wear. I run my track so loose it actually ratchets in powder at WOT. Going to add Extroverts to run it even looser maybe 3" sag instead of 1"

rsvectordude.... If your buddies were wearing the slides down that fast, were you riding on a gravel road or on the sand dunes? :D

You can do alot of damage running the track real loose.best to stick to Camoplast factory break -in and run specs ! 1 inch approx 25 millmeters in center of rail at 10 kg on spring scale. use OEM hyfax not cheap stuff, run new ones on ice till good and hot ,stop pack with snow and Temper them. they will wear down to about 12mm in heaviest wear area and then stay there for 4,000 miles if you ride in snow not ice roads and snirt ! easy test is to carry a 10mm open end wrench and use as a go-no go guage on thinnest part of hy-fax ! 6,200 miles on second set on a 2005 Rage, just my .02 worth

It seem like when I switched to a fully clipped Cobra track the wear is alot worse. I used to get 1500 miles on a pair with the Ripjunk but the Cobra has holes on the clips where they meet the slides and they act like a cheese grader on the slides. Almost every hole is filled with melted hyfax. We always use OEM yamaha hyfax and have even tried the Yamaha graphite ones too.

I bet you're fine. My Yamaha's wear right down on there in few hundred miles then it wont move for the next 1000.
