Big kid style. Got the dirt to grade. My seed guru tells me just to seed oats right now to re-establish the soil structure and what not. Then in July when it dies do the final grade and seed oats again and grass seed at that time. I put the oats in with my rental grain drill. 3 bushel to the acre. Hope it comes after the monsoon we are supposed to get today.... 1-3 inches of rain forcasted... You should see all the black birds eating what seed didn't get buried this morning... I have to say that's a new one to me. Never heard of planting oats before grass seed, then oats with the grass seed. I figured that would make a nasty mess of weeds and weed seeds.

Yes, the oats act as a "mother crop" as they grow first and help establish the grasses. In larger scale Ag. operations the oats act as a mother crop as in this case and then are harvested for their grains when they mature leaving behind the new grass seedlings.

I should have you talk to my seed company. This guy easily could talk for days about seeds.... I also used premium seed oats with .001% weed seed. The name of the seed oats was Horsepower as well so I thought it was meant to be!!
