ZR 500 EFI Engine Question

I have 2000 ZR 500 EFI. The sled runs fine across a field or down the trail. After it warms up and I slow down or come into a corner it wants to bog and almost die out when I get back into the throttle. I have to "feather" or pump the throttle a little to keep it running and then it runs fine until the next turn or slow down. I have adjusted the throttle gap and it is a little better. New plugs. Could I have a little water in the tank? Other than the getting back into the throttle issue the sled runs perfect. I am stumped.

Have you tried disabling the TSS? (Throttle safety system) You do this by unplugging the 3 wire connector that comes from the throttle assy on the handlebars. The connector is normally at the steering column. This will disable the TSS, but will also disable the kill switch (key will still work) If your symptoms dissapear, you have some problem with the TSS which could be bad throttle pivot bearings, bad switch in the throttle, or mis adjusted throttle cable. If the problem does not change after unplugging the connector, you might want to look at your spark plug caps to see if there is any carbon buildup. It certainly could be bad gas, a fuel pump problem, a failing stator, etc. But, try the easy stuff first.

It was the TSS. I have never had a kill switch partially fail. Usually they run bad all the time, not just out of the corners or such. Anyway, I unplugged it and it runs perfect. Thanks Wyelde. I have been chasing this issue for two seasons!

Sounds to me like the little white plastic washers in the throttle pin. I had this problem with a 1999 600efi ZL a couple times.

I had the same issue and chased it for almost 3 years on and off. Believe it or not, I asked Kip about it one time when I was in, he suggested that was the problem, but I didn't deal with it until I did a little more internet/forum research. Been running 2 seasons now without a problem.

Well the kill switch was only half of the problem. When I started chasing this problem the zr500 would actually die out from time to time with my wife riding it. This was her sled. So.... for the last two years when she goes with me she is on the new crossfire and guess who has been riding the zr. Now she won't give up the crossfire! Time to go shopping.

I learned this lesson awhile ago anything I wanna keep and use I never show my wife and never let her use it because 9 times out of 10 it become hers then. To give example I bought a truck this summer she drove it home I haven't touched it since now it hers. LOL
