Summer destination secrets

Just throwin this out there. With summer right around the corner anyone have some small town festivals and fun destinations that you would like to share. Every year we have been chasing small town fairs and special events and found that they can provide some interesting entertainment. We enjoy the festival of the pines in Lake city Michigan in late September. last year we went to Marion Old days and had a blast. They rope off a good section of town and they woop it up from sunup to sundown. Tractor pulls, pig races, and all the good food and good people. I wooped it up with a table of seniors and was invited back this year!

I'm really not into pig races but we do usually go the the Apple BBQ Festival in Silver Lake every September. Lots of good food, car show and all kinds of stuff to buy. Plus we hit the dunes for some off roading.

Summer Is Great

Porterfield Country Music Festival

Big Names / Smaller Venue

Don't have to "watch it on a big screen"
because every seat (lawn chair) gets a great view.
Don't have to be a Country-Music Fan to Enjoy,.....
Just a great local Party!

I know it is a long ways to go for most of you but Arctic Cat is having a 50th Anniversary party in Thief River Falls on July 29th and 30th. It might be fun for some of us sledheads. There is information on arcticinsider.com

Without kids...Put-in-Bay or Country Concert in the Hills is a good time in our area of Ohio. Put-in-Bay might be the biggest party scene on Lake Erie.

Two recent family vacations I really enjoyed were The Outer Banks, NC. and Charleston, SC. In Ohio, we have two of the best amusement parks in the U.S. with Cedar Point and Kings Island if your looking for things with kids.

We do 2 events in the fall, NHRA in Brainard, the best entertainment for the money,an experiance everyone that loves horsepower should attend once in their life. The other is Hay Days, just to check out the latest in the market and the deals. The Yoop has many festivals through out the summer that are fun and family oriented. Bridgefest, Strawberry fest,Thunder in the Harbor and more.

Is there a place that lists the UP festivals? I looked on Michigan.org and they have no festivals listed for the UP between June 30th and Sept 30th...

We usually go up every year at the end of August for the Houghton County Fair. They have alot of great things for the kids to do and usually have monster truck and/or dirt bike races. Lots of good food too! The only drag is the fairgrounds are located at the top of the hill and it's normally quite windy but still worth checking out.
