Silver City/ White Pine Lodging Recommendations ??

Am planning a trip in a few weeks to head (ride) from Woodruff/St. Germain area to Silver City as destination. Hoping for some/any input and recommendations on places to stay overnight, dine, and maybe a day trip once arriving in that area. Party of 4-5 riders. Also curious if anyone has made that ride before and approx trail miles.

thanks in advance,,,,,,

That Americ Inn was very friendly to us the last time we stayed there. We did an overnight trip to copper harbor and stayed in Houghton and they did not charge us for that night even though we left all of our stuff in the rooms. That is sledder friendly if you ask me. I have never stayed at konteka but I hear that is a good time.

Keep in mind that Konteka is the only gas in the area, and you don't mind hearing lots of sleds till they shut the pumps off...Their winter rates (around $95.00 for 2 people)are higher than their summer rates ...If you're doing the trip during the week the Root Cellar has great weekday rates, but don't leave your gloves in the sled unattended....

EF makes some good points.

I like Konteka for the location he was requesting and the place seems ideal for what he's looking for. Konteka has lodging and really good food. If he wants to expand his criteria, there are plenty who know more than me who could help.

There, of course, are other options. Bigdaddy has stayed at the AmericInn in Silver City and liked it there and said the food was good. There are also cabin options in Silver City that I know of but am not familiar with.

If FlyingRev is looking for a different TOWN as an option...well, we could go on all day?! Lake Gogebic may or may not be where FR was looking to stay...but certainly has TONS of options all along the lake.

Without FR input, the options are endless!?

Sorry for not responding sooner to those who have taken the time to provide feedback as I've been away from the JD site for a bit, but since I started to get JD withdrawal shakes, I thought I had better sign in.

Wow,, great feedback and input. Thanks to all who have responded.

I was eyeing the Konteka and AmericInn but did not have any first hand knowledge but now I do. Sounds like I prob wouldn't go wrong either way.

Excessive Force ,,, good input on the pumps at Konteka,, I may have to check what time they close up. thanks

Windingtrail - As far as Town selection goes, riding up from the Woodruff area thru P.I. somewhat limits how far we can reasonably travel in a day but you are so correct on the potential destination opportunities. Lake Gogebic looks like a mecca of opportunity, but I wanted to travel a short distance further to get slightly off the beaten path. Something about riding to "Lake Superior" intrigued other riding party members as well. This is a special trip for my 15 and 16 yr old sons, so the nightlife L.G could provide isn't imperative.

I am a bit of a rookie on Western UP knowledge, but I'm better informed now. Now all I need is to find out where/if any off-trail opportunities exist but that will be part of the fun in exploring a new area. I am at heart a complete Powder-Hound so I'd sleep in a barn on wet hay if it guaranteed me 8+ inches of fresh powder in the morning.

Thanks again to those who responded.
