Hand Signals From Bone Heads!!!

If you are going to use hand signals please get it right! Today 2 poo guys going east on 6E a few miles from the Conover trail junction both gave the 1 index finger count so I'm looking for #3 that did not exist. Made no sense to me but I thought whatever... I gave the 1 index finger as there was only 1 rider with me & behind me. If I was alone you would have the fist but I gave you the correct count 1 sled in my group behind me. You wicked it up after me rode on the wrong side of the trail & ran my bud into the woods clipping his right mirror off & knocking his skis out of aligment which in turn caused his trailing arm to buckle at about the 175 mile mark south on 107 during our RT. On top of all that you never stopped to see if you could help, check on damage or see if Venturenorth was hurt!

You are totally confused on hand signals so understand the count is for sleds behind your position not counting you which we can see. You also make me wonder about the type of people I share the trail. Knowing you ran someone off the trail & never stopped is about as bad as it can get!! We would have been ok" a stuff happens response" but since you did not stop or even care makes me think you are SLIME. I'm looking for you on the trails the rest of the week & hope you read this. What goes around comes around & you have some bad Karma coming your way!

There was just a post on this about an hour ago by a guy named Eddie Van Sleddin' from Iron Belt, WI. I don't know if he came across the same two dudes or what, but he seemed pretty irritated with the hand signaling as well. We all make mistakes, but if you are going to run somebody off the trail at least stop to see if they are alright. Eddie Van Sleddin' was talking about getting cut off at an intersection by a couple of clowns. Did these guys take you out at an intersection, was one of them riding an RMK? That just seems crazy to me.

Keep your hands on the handlebars, please.......

X2 I have been almost hit to many times this year by people not in control of their sled taking their hand off to signal! Makes me crazy!! and I wear mittens so no signaling for me, my hands are on handlebars...

every year this thread makes me crazy lol

These people who cannot properly & safely give correct hand signals are probably the same kind that don't know how or when to properly use the turn signals on their cars or trucks!

Especially if you're on the RR grade and can see a 1/4 mile anyway. I can see how many are coming. I agree, ride on your half of the trail and forget the hand signals.

Pretty much. The other situation being "why on earth would you hand signal at night?".... we passed easily 8 different groups between Big Bay and AAA road and I think only ONE of them DIDN'T signal.... *** people I can see your sleds for 20 seconds and would struggle to see your hands because of light contrast.... get smarter.

If you can't take one hand off the bars to signal and still be in control of your sled, maybe, just maybe, you might be going a wee bit too fast for the conditions

From what I heard this was the reason for the death near Grand Marais earlier this year. Woman was riding and lost control of her sled while trying to use hand signals. Not sure if it's true but what I heard while I was up there earlier this year.

Yes True... we were there also. That was the " final " story. I would like to think that accidents like that " don't happen " frequently.

Yes that was the cause of the accident that resulted in the lady being killed near Grand Marais. I was the guy that called 911 to report it. She wasn't going fast. No one had been drinking. Her ski hit something which caused her to lose control of the sled while trying to signal. I don't care how strong a person is or how good a rider they are. If you only have one hand on the bars you DO NOT have good control of the sled. Hand signals are stupid. Keep your hands on the bars at all times! Ride right and always expect someone coming around the next corner. It is amazing how many riders do not have a clue. Signaling in gas station parking lots, at night, at intersections, straight stretches where you can see 1/4 mile ahead. Or the ones with a full set of mirrors that we catch up to and follow for miles weaving back and forth across the entire trail and signal that they are last. Or the groups that get all upset when our group does not signal. Had a guy take BOTH hands off the bars making a gesture asking where are your hand signals. Dumb!

Whitedust - was that 2 separate incidents?
Sorry, but I can't understand your writing in text jargon, and I would like to know.
Am I to understand the 2nd guy that came toward you, ran your buddy off the trail, and the 1st guy signaled incorrectly?
Thanks.

I agree with those that say "forget the hand signals". In most instances, you can see the people anyway.
Especially at night - they are worthless.

Fusion both on coming sleds #1 & #2 gave the 1 signal. So didn't make a lot of sense to me so I slowed & was looking for #3. I have to thnk they were both confused & were only counting themselves. I gave the 1 signal for my bud behind me & they wicked it up must of thought I met I was by myself which would have been a fist signal. So when Venturenorth appeared they were both on the wrong side of the trail & he had to veer into the woods to avoid a head on. They knew they ran him off the trail & never stopped looked back or checked on him. If you don't understand hand signals don't use them & don't use the signals being given to you if you don't understand. Never ever power up after any hand signal because it could be wrong data in along string of moving traffic. Traffic was light we were in twistys & these guys misunderstood the 1 signal wicked it up ran on wrong side of trail & ran Venturenorth off the trail. They are probably still out there misunderstanding the signals people are giving them a real pair of dangerous MORONS! Not sure of the Poo sled model but saw a lot of red & white sleds & poo jackets.

OK - now I got it.
1st of all, you should never be on the wrong side of the trail, unless it's WIDE OPEN spaces, and you know for a fact nobody is coming, within you ability to MOVE over.
But I'm sure you will get all types of excuses WHY some lunatic should have had a reason to be anywhere but the right hand side of the trail.
Like I said in a post last week, based on what I saw in my last ride on 1/28, nothing surprises me much anymore. You essentially ride at your own risk out there.
It's common place to use the entire trail when you are anywhere put 1st in a pack, riding with a big group. I see it all the time.
And I'm not talking riding 30 - 40 MPH either, I'm talking twisty trails, through woods, at 40- 60.
That's OK - eventually this sport will go F'd up, and regulated to death with all types of enforcement officials and laws that take the fun out of it - ALL because we
can't use common sense and police ourselves.

What about me? The friendly farmer from s.e. mn, I wave at everybody!!!
Just kidding, keep your hands on the grips, just smile big!!!

Blah blah blah, you can whine about anything and everything out there (As has been the case here lately), you will NEVER get everyone to do it right.

Very strange you think it is whining when you get blown off the trail & wreck your sled & then no one stops that caused the accident. Venturenorth"s venture is a total just too much to repair the old ride to make trail worthy again. Not a happy day for him:(
