Enjoy your trip, but more importantly be safe. I'm sure you know the danger, but just felt the need to say something. Too many stories of people dying in avalanches this year and it sounds like the conditions will be favorable for them. Looking forward to the stories, pictures, and videos and all to return home safe! :D

Thanks, been washing up the gear and picked up the clutch components for elevation. Starting to set in that I am headed out soon!

I will be very careful and will be sure to take lots of pics (of Skylar stuck). :)

you better be ready for those pics. With that new sled his stucks will be fewer and farther between. Skylar make sure you Skool them well!!

Looks like we'll be out there at the same time. I'll be there on Sunday-Wednesday with some buddies from Chicago and Arizona.

We've never met, but I had one of the early cams on your Northwoods Cam Network...back when there were only a few snowflakes on the map...now it is jam-packed with snowflakes. Mine was the "Mr. Penguin" cam in St. Germain, WI. I met (virtually) many nice people who found my website via link from yours

We've since moved to Victor, ID (the low-rent district outside of Jackson Hole). I spend my winter days snowmobiling out here. I usually make one or two guys trips to Togwotee each year since it is set up so perfectly for a sledding trip.

Look forward to maybe meeting you at happy hour one evening.

I have a feeling if Skylar and I go tit for tat in stuck pictures, he's gonna need a bigger memory card for his camera! I am actually excited to swap sleds for a while and see what the new RMK is like. Have heard nothing but great things about it. Also looking forward to really making the proclimb work. Have not had to push it too hard yet this season in the yoop. Have fun and keep it safe in Island Park!

Safety first for sure. Thank you for your well wishes!

Funny story, I tell my wife that John bought an avy airbag, and she says, "what are you trying to tell me?" I am thinking, " cool, I am getting the green light to get an avy bag" she then says, "that I need to increase the life insurance policy on you?" LMAO!

As far as getting stuck on the new sled, umm, you guys have read how the Pro RMK makes one a better rider right? HAHAHAHAHA, maybe it makes one THINK they are a better rider, but one still needs TALENT, which I am lacking. LOL. I am sure I will have plenty of stucks, and I am excited to swap sleds with John to see what the new ProClimb is like.

We leave Friday morning, with a little sidetrack to West Point, Nebraska on the way out. My buddy is a farmer, and we are dropping something off to get fixed I guess. LOL.

CANNOT WAIT! Two more work days, then we are west bound and down!

I just read this, very sad and sobering, even as excited as I am to get out there. :(

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE this morning and will increase during the day as new snow and increasing westerly winds create new soft slabs and add weight to existing instabilities. Yesterday, a snowmobiler perished after triggering a medium sized slide while highmarking on Grouse Mountain. Our deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of the victim. This slide released below a cornice on a steep, east facing slope at an elevation of 9,680 feet. The avalanche had a crown depth of 30 inches, was 400 yards wide, ran 300 yards and created a deposition zone up to 15 feet. Similar slides remain possible today, and some potential persists for them to step down an additional two feet. Yesterday’s tragic event illustrates the potential consequences of getting caught in one of these slides and caution remains warranted.

I just found out we are dropping off a set of tracks off of the Cat tractor they have, to be retreaded I guess. My buddy Joe's brother Matt is the mechanic on their farm. Seriously, there is nothing he cannot fix, plus, he and his cousin have a small machine shop together.

So that's the secret! All we needed was for John to head west, then this.

Even Michigan Tech closed down today. (You could count on the fingers of one hand the number of times they've done that in the last 100 years!):
ALERT: Michigan Tech Closed Due to Severe Weather

Michigan Technological University is closing at 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, due to a severe winter storm. Classes are canceled from 3 p.m. on, and University offices will be closed. Only personnel responsible for safety, buildings, grounds and residential operations should complete their shifts. Those scheduled to work later should contact their supervisors to determine if they should come to work.

The University Senate meeting scheduled for tonight has been canceled.

Tonight's basketball games will be held as planned at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Safe travels to Tog. Me, Techsledder and his brother, Tim_h, and some other folks are heading to Tog on Saturday and will be there all next week. We'll see you at Happy Hour!
