WOW... the vote was very close but it failed 1900 yes vs. 1971 no! I hope that this will now go away but with it being so close I am sure it will come up again. Maybe next time more of the owners of the 200,000+ registered sleds in WI will come out to vote unless they want to have the 25 MPH speed limit on frozen waters (other than trails) in WI???

Good news! I never thought it would be that close!

Vilas county, Forest County, Florence County, and Iron County supported it just to name a few. Seems like the northern counties supported the measure.

I didnt think the vote would be that close but as stated before more hunters and fishermen go to these meetings than sleders. These northern counties are the ones that we really dont want in favor of this.So we really need to pay attention if this comes up again,,,and it probably will.

Not for certain, but how many lakes are in those areas that people actually ride on? Would it really matter to them?

Now, near the Appleton area with Lake Winnebago and west of there with Lake Poygan and the Wolf River, a 25mph limit would not be welcome by any snowmobiler! The DNR would love it as a revenue generator.

In years with low snow amounts, with the lakes and rivers in that area at least a person can get out and ride w/o travelling too far.

If this topic comes up for another vote in the future, snowmobilers better show up in huge numbers.

To answer your question on how many lakes in those areas do people ride and does it really matter the answer is yes it matters and Vilas and Iron countys are both covered with lakes and possibly the heaviest used countys in the state by snowmobilers. This is one of the reasons this needs to be watched because the vote passed in some countys that do really matter this is not a good thing.I am shure there was more hunters and fishermen at these meeting than there was avid snowmobilers.I didnt think the vote would be as close as it was so we need to watch this because it will probably come up again.

The vote was to close to send any signal on which way the DNR should go, I'd be willing to bet that most of the no votes were cast by CLUB MEMBERS.

Even though I havn't ridden in Wisconsin in years I don't like the sound of this. The people who want the speed limit will bring it up year after year and if the snowmobilers don't pay attention it could pass, 25 mph on a lake is ridiculous
