Any one have feed back on trail maps by SledGPS.com? I have been using Red Pine maps, but now want western states. Thanks.

I have the Midwest version. I use it with a Garmin Nuvi 500. Been using it for a couple seasons. So far I like it very much. I still have paper maps as backup, and the gps maps are not always 100 percent, but riding northern wi and U.P. they have been very accurate for the most part.

Polarismike. I just downloaded Red Pine Maps on my Nuvi 1300. I went to a trail with my truck and put a destination about 20 miles away. I expected to view map as I would do in my truck. My question, will it continue to show the trail and update the trail to my destination as I ride. I don't know if I worded the correct. Thanks, Jerry

I don't have the Red Pine Mapping or a Nuvi 1300, so I guess I can't answer your question. I do not think the "turn by turn" directions you get when using a Garmin in your vehicle will work as well if at all on the snow trails map. I have heard claims of turn by turn for snowmo trails, but I have never tried using it. I use my GPS more so when I get to an intersection I don't have to pull out the map as much. I don't need it to plan an exact route, that is part of the fun of sledding, changing up or taking different loops depending on time or conditions etc..

I am not real sure of the Nuvi wording, but if you have it set to "on road" it should route you on the trails as you go. The trails become the "roads"

Go to the 3rd drop down menu in the middle of the page. Click on a County.
When the County map comes up, there are little radio bottons (the legend shows them) to "download" the GPS file. Click on one of those and it opens a text type file and then you click on the link in the middile of that page to download the gpx file.

I saw this on the news, but I can't find the place to download the maps.. Maybe I am missing something.

Yes.

You need to tell the GPS to use the trail maps, might want to shut off road maps to reduce clutter.

Turn by turn works well on my Garmin with sled gps installed. All Garmin functions work, it is just on a different set of maps. The GPS provides the software, the map chip is just a set of data.

What do you put the gps settings to? I turn off the road maps altogether. Then set gps for "trail" use or leave it on "roads" ?

I have a Zumo which is a Garmin...same as the Nuvi. From what I recall about using the turn by turn on the trails; you have to drag onto the trail or it'll give the directions via roads. Make sense? If not there are detailed instructions on Red Pine's site.

I almost think the trail maps are a waste of time on the GPS...unless you just want to know where you're at. Use paper maps to figure out destinations and stops.

I too, use paper maps to see the "big" picture. But use the GPS to watch as I go. Like knowing a trail is coming up and how far away it is.

It's nice to have. I went to the trouble of installing a 12volt plug on my switch so I can have it available.
