Dfattack, any place to be aware of? How was the trails U.P. & Wi Whats the best scenic route over there? Any off trail? Thx.
I'm not sure about any place to ride off trail. I stick to the trails for the most part. I don't have the map in front of me, but depending on where you want to head (north, south, east or west) there are numerous options. My favorite is to the north up trail 5. you can take that trail almost all the way to Big Bay, MI. Also, trail 5 north to (i think) trail 32 then head east to Gwinn where you can stop at the "UP north lodge" for eat, then head back south on the same route or take another route home heading south on trail 33 down to I think 16 then back to Iron Mountain. Please verify trail #'s before heading out. This is all from Memory.
also, whenever south of Florence/Iron Mountain has good snow I like to head down towards Dunbar and Goodman since their trails are nice and groomed well. Honestly it isn't too often that I do head south, but I do enjoy it since it's a nice change of scenery.
from what I saw last week and have been hearing it's all decent riding right now. I will caution you that in the woods the trails need more snow to fill in the ruts. roads and grade trails are flat and smooth...I know the guys who groom north and east of Iron Mountain and they are out doing their job...just need a little more snow in some areas.
hope this helps. I"m glad to help you with any more questions.
