The fat lady is singing! Time to "clean and grease em up" I want to thank the countys, I and my friends, have rode this season! Thanks to Juneau, Adams, Wood, Washara, Marathon, Portage, Monroe, Vilas, Iron, and Ashland countys, and the land owners, for use of the land to enjoy this sport. High five to the many snowmobile clubs and groomers whose countless hours, and hard work, have made this 'EPIC' season a blast ! Thanks to the businesses, for their hospitality and God willing we will be able to do this again next year! i thought i would share this picture as the sun sets on a great season! Jim

Trails are still open guys even the one's across private property they just will not be groomed. Gates will all still be open and the trails here right now are awesome!!! Flat and smooth. Hope some of you can still make it because it's definitely worth your while.

When did the DNR make that call? Easements end on the 31st I have looked at the DNR site and cannot find anywhere that they extended the season?

The trails will for sure be open. You will not see anything on the DNR site because their part in maintaining the trails are now over but that does not mean they cannot be riden. The State simply will not fund the grooming clubs anymore. You can ride from Houghton to Copper Harbor. Grooming clubs can groom but they will not be paid by the state. They will have to fund it themselves! By being over that's what the state means. It does not mean you cannot ride the trails fella's. The trails are in good shape and it's 21 degrees here this morning. NO gate will be closed here!!!!

I just got back from 2 weeks in Munising trails are open just no grooming. Its a ghost town and the trails are in really good shape. Roadsides, gas stations and parking lots are getting bare but the trails are fine.

As John had said earlier and as a land owner in the Keweenaw I can tell you that ANY trail crossing private property in Keweenaw county is closed! The land agreements in Keweenaw county have a end DATE of March 31st at midnight! Period and if people ride YOU will risk loosing trails by pissing off land owners! Gates don't have to be closed do you expect a land owner to tredge through the snow just to enforce what they signed? The paperwork for Keweenaw states December 1st till March 31st ! So if you want to take Kip's advice and ride DON'T PISS AND MOAN NEXT YEAR IF YOU CAN'T GET TO COPPER HARBOR BECAUSE THERE IS NO TRAIL! Hay kip do you own land in Keweenaw county?

Wow, I just got off the phone with our club president and he informed me that we have one more week of trail riding even without grooming which came straight from the state!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe John and our club president need to get together. As a matter of fact I do own land in the keweenaw! Thank you very much. Obviously we don't want to piss off landowners. I'm simply passing on the info. given by our representatives. Sorry for pissing you off radsrh:)

I would think if gate closed or roped off don't ride there. To me should not be a big problem for a landowner to ribbon off his land if he does not want sleds on trails on his/ her land. IMO not a big deal if my land to let riders have trail access for another week plenty of snow on the ground to protect the land. On the other hand grooming will be less than stellar so it is what it is "late season" riding. I would not exspect many riders most are done.

Whitedust,

Exactly. A little common sense goes along way. It's similar to logging, if it's wet and warm then you stay off the road or land. It's cold and lots of snow!!! Everything is froze thus nothing will be damaged.

Wow Kip did you say they extended for ONE week or just tell people to ride at will? You are no different then the sales people for ATV's that tell people to ride ATV's on snowmobile trails year round? Been there done that from a Polaris dealer just north of the boarder said yes you can ride worked well till we got chased down by a white pickup. Spent a long time apologizing to the land owners about that funny they knew right where we got the info. Best part about this is you telling people to ride without checking first and without stating it was a one week extension?
