Coming to the Keweenaw this weekend with the wife and daughters. First family trip in the summer to the area. We are staying at D's Base Camp. Looking for suggestions on what we should not miss. I know the wife will demand seeing some light houses and we have discussed running down to see what Lake of the Clouds looks like in the summer. We are coming up Friday and leaving Monday, so not a lot of time but want to make the most of the time we have. All suggestions besides eating and drinking at the Mosquito are appreciated I will have that one covered. Thanks.

When we were up last Summer we went to Misery Bay. It was an afternoon of fun in the lake. But it was warm. Try and see if you can get a tour at the mine in Mass. If they like exploring a bit.
Lake of the clouds and maybe the Porkies for sure a good bet. Have fun, we sure did!!

Don n Donna may have some suggestions too?!?

If you're interested in seeing bears-go to the Konteka in White Pine for dinner some evening and you will be in dining area to see bears come out of the woods and be just on the other side of the glass from you. The restaurant feeds the bears-would imagine bears will come in from 5:30 on. White Pine is not far from the Porkies You might also be interested in going to Bond Falls & Agate Falls. Bond Falls is south of Bruce Crossing in the Paulding area and is a most beautiful waterfall (claimed to be the most used waterfall picture on calendars in the world) There are so many things to see, would be helpful to know what your families interests are. A week-end is not going to be enough time for you to see a lot. North to Copper Harbor is as far North as you can go "but is not the end of the world." You might even stop by to meet Kruppy-in Twin Lakes about 8 miles south of D's Base Camp. Have a great time. (You could even catch Bond Falls on your way home to IL.)

Thanks for all the suggestions we had a great time. Thanks for you hospitality D & D! We hit Bonds falls on the way up. Saturday we went up through Eagle River had a great lunch at Fitzgeralds, to Eagle Harbor and did the light house tour and happened to hit the art fair that was going on. Silver Falls, Brockway Mt. played mini golf in Copper Harbor. Down through Lac La Belle out to Bete Gris stopped at Bear Belly. Ran down to Gay then back to Bear Belly to pick up the wife's purse she forgot so.
It was a good time for dinner there. (thanks Bear Belly for protecting her purse). Sunday was Adventure Mine amazing experience! I was not sure how much I would like that much time underground let alone the girls, but everyone loved it. My 8 year old says she is coming back on her 13th b-day so she can repel to the 2nd level. After the mine it was off to Lake of the clouds. As beautiful in the summer as in the winter. Back though Ontonagon, picked up D & D ran up to the Loading Zone for pizza and a swing past Dream land for ice cream for the girls. Back out to Agate beach for one of the most amazing sunsets I have seen in a long time.
Oh and we did grab our Pasties from Krupps on the way home and threw in a quick stop at Agate falls. Also managed a stop at Black Bear in St. Germain for lunch on the way home.
Every one had a great time and cant wait to get back for a longer trip with the new 4 seater utv the wife decided we now need after seeing so many people having a good time on them up there.

Thank you to everyone in the UP for their hospitality!!!!

Flatlandracer: Thanks for letting us know that all was well with your girls-that's what we like to hear. You sure did a lot in a short period of time and you stored quite a bit in your memory bank. There really is many things to see and do in the UP. Now the girls will thinking of going back to school. A 4-seater would be great for your family.
