Worst area in the U.P?

Just curious, was wondering if the are any bad areas in the U.P? Not sure if there even is? High crime, abandoned buildings etc? Kinda like the Gary In/Detroit Mi. of the UP.

There are no bad areas in the U.P., it is all good.

Also, if you are concerned about abandoned buildings, they are ALL over.

Are you looking to move there or vacation there. I would pick some places and spend some time there if you can to see for yourself. If you need to be close to all the things a typical city offer then you will need to be by Marquette. The rest is pretty much pure awsome UP! I went to Michigan Tech and have spent a lot of time in Pardise (one blinking trafic light in town). Love both areas but totally different in their own way.

Last time we drove through Marinesco in the summer there were more abandoned buildings than there were houses with activity and people. Looked like a ghost town, truly dreadful.

Where in the UP is a good place to grab a couple of drinks after the keys are put away? Seems like it's hit or miss - just curious where people like to end up at the end of the day, if you're in to that.

Iron River is pretty sketchy, my truck got carved up a couple years ago while fishing on Fire Lake. We knew who did it but County cop would not pursue. Later was told the cop owned property near Fire Lake and did not want to arrest his friend. O.K., what about me?

Cabin now sold, lots of good memories but did not like the games some locals played. Did meet many good locals, especially at area Catholic churches, too bad a few have to ruin things for all.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have bought property in Wisconsin.

My Top 5 would be:

1. Sault St Marie
2. St Ignace
3. Christmas
4. Houghton
5. Munising

I tend to get in the most trouble in those areas. :)

Yes, Amasa trails are awesome, very low traffic. I probably would have looked at the Florence area westward to Hwy. 139.

A few years ago I almost bought a restaurant on North Twin Lake, liked that area also.

Just bought a sled in Iron River, drove all around town to find the address, agreed seemed VERY sketchy in town. Not sure if it's just because the low income of most people up there or not.
