Can't compare the WI & MI trail permit sales as apples & oranges comparsion too many loop holes in WI. IL buds all register their sleds in WI beat the need for a WI trail permits which you can NOT do in MI. Also WI much bigger snow area than WI border with UPMI. Northern WI as well as UPMI always gets snow sooner or later & storm tracks can lay snow down anywhere in WI so southern WI & IL riders are snow seekers go to the WI snow & much closer to home. Trips to the UPMI are planned & scheduled but I can't get them to comitt to UP when they know Vilas & Forest county,WI will come together sooner or later....just won't pay $45 to see UP trees. $25 was no problem I could convince them for a day or 2 ride 1 bud a half a day had no problem with MI $25.

I think it is relevant. If people think the reason MI permits are down because of low snow, it would make sense that WI permits would be down from low snow. And, I was told that the WI clubs get more money through the registration then throught the out-of-state permit because more of the out-of-state permit goes towards the permit administration.

I'm not going to tell you how to think but MI & WI different trail permit systems. Everybody needs a trail permit in MI to ride vs WI just out of state registered riders. Like I said apples & oranges comparison. Maybe if we knew if WI registartions decreased & WI trail permits decreased too it would be meaningful but WI trail permits sales alone does not reveal much.

Well, my thinking is broad enough I figure actuaries or statisticians would account for the out-of-state registered riders and adjust for it.

No idea where you would get that type of WI info one or the other but not both combined the state does not reason in that fashion & difficult to get any of these stats.

I think the 3 day permit for Mi is a good idea. I would still buy the $45 one for all 3 of my Sleds.

Wisconsin's system is broken. The clubs are all on the edge of Bankruptcy. The $15 a year License fee is a joke and should be raised. There is no Money to buy new Equipment and some Trails may go ungroomed this year as these old Groomers break down. I would bet Wisconsin has not had a raise in Registration in 15 years or more and look at the cost of Groomers and Fuel. Wi did start the out of State Permit a few tears ago but many are Registering instead of buying the Permit. Our County told us to forget about any Trail projects or Bridges, there is no money.

My thinking as well I can convince a few buds to crossover WI to UPMI for a day or 2 if 2-3 day trail permit was offered. I will continue to purchase $45 season trail permit & use it all season. WI permit system full of loop holes should be changed.
