"Due to the price gouging by the propane companies the "Tap" won't open until warm weather. Pray for a early spring!"

Saw this on the Brule River Tap's Facebook page, too bad as it was a nice place to stop when riding in Florence and Forest Co.'s

Yep...you will see some of this the next few weeks up north....THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED BY THE FEDS....somebody is artificially inflating the price...I don't buy any of the BS STORIES....this is killing small businesses....finally we get decent cold and snow...so these businesses can have a good year...and THIS happens.

Thankfully my friends bar ...where I work from time to time....put in a pellet stove 3 years ago...it has literally saved them thousands of dollars in fuel costs.

That realy blows...I hadn't realized the place was back open....loved there prime rib sandwiches !

I been thinking about my next 2 trips coming up in feb. and if the motels will be trying to add some sorta "propane" surcharge to the room rates...For there sake, I hope not,...I have other options that don't include having to rent a room.

How do you not under stand why the prices have increased. Look at the temperatures we've had. Colder temps means more heat. More heat means more use. More use means more propane. More propane means more demand. More demand means less supply. Less supply means increase in price. Simple as that. Unfortunate they had to close but thats the way the world turns.

They still have to heat the building so how is not having any income better then having income but paying higher fuel prices. Charge a little more to cover the cost.

This could really be a bad situation for the Propane dealers also. I have heard of many people actively researching or actually switching their energy sources. Outdoor wood burners, pellet stoves, electricity, etc.. the future of propane could be very limited. And as far as shutting down, you can drain pipes in several minutes if set up for it, very easy.

Enough can't be said how much heat a free standing fireplace can put out. Had one in my house in Sturgeon Bay, used it daily to heat the 2,000 sq. ft. home. Electric heat throughout, utility bill was $150 max in winter, 2 cords of firewood per winter. Wife and I usually running around in our undies at night, 75 degrees plus.

plenty of places are turning the heat down. Went into Bear Chasers on Island lake last Friday and froze our asses off. Asked them if they could turn the heat up a little because my gal was shivering. The only answer I got was, "price of gas went up, can't afford it." I said, well I can't afford to freeze, I'm going outside to warm up.

I feel like I just sat the a semester of ECON 101 again....well put. Tomorrow lesson should be about opportunity costs.

Seems completely logical and well stated from my perspective. Like it or not, propane, natural gas, crude oil are all commodities and traded on the world stage. If you pay attention to weather services (maybe ask John, I'm sure he has some energy clients), the price of natural gas, heating oil and propane have been significantly impacted by the weather and the forecast for more of the same. One of the coldest winters in recorded weather history, a top ten event for most of the Midwest.

Just a simple fact as stated supply and demand, but were america were the dollar rules.
Were pumping out more energy then ever, north Dakota, but they send the majority over seas
because they can make more money, money, money... a Charile Brown thing, and who faults a
company for wanting to make more, the poor energy companies.
The gravy train is over, they been pushing for more natural gas usage, because it's cheap for years,
now that everybody is using it the price goes up.

Of course the pipeline for midwest LP supply being down has nothing to do with cost as well as BP running another product in their pipeline that was more profitable than LP. ECON 101 is a ZZZZZZZZZ does not apply to fully understand the costs & lack of product. When YOU are directly affected you dig further to find real cause of price spike. As far as our local LP distributors they are getting slaughtered as well can't even raise money to buy the stuff at such high prices. Much more going on here than simple supply & demand.

my semi retired life has me spending 40 hrs a week at a big box building supply store and we have run out of salt 3 times this past month....the corp heads could easily jump there price 50% at this point and no one would blink an eye, but they HAVE NOT even though emergency truckloads of salt being brought in has extra costs involved....is my company being dolts by not gouging the public in there efforts to melt there ice problems?....econ of supply and demand teaches supply, demand, gouge, greed and prosper, no?

as far as LP is concerned I can't see the additional costs of delivery adding up to 400% price increase...can you?

Whitedust is correct on the pipeline. We also were told last fall that when they could reverse the flow on a pipeline our gas and diesel prices would come down, guess what! I use different forms and sources for my needs, gas, diesel, and LP. One of my suppliers showed me this Thurs we our exporting 5 times the LP as compared to last years pace. Yes we are being ripped big time according to him. He's having to allocate deliveries to keep everyone going, and that does effect his costs to you somewhat. He also said the oil execs are pushing hard right now to be able to export more raw crude from the USA. Just wait for that little deal to go thru and watch what happens, and the excuses used to justify the pricing then.

Don't forget to add the substantial bump in home owners insurance..they do come out and take pics of your smoke stacks..deny you have a operational wood stove and you'll be on your own if it burns the house.
