Trail Clean-ups This Fall

I know it's only July, but trying to plan a couple weekends up north in Sept and Oct. Typically there are a few groups doing trail work in the UP that post their events here. Anyone have those dates set, or at least traditionally (for example, always the 3rd Sat of Sept) set yet?

Funny you should ask...

We may be switching things up a bit. Traditionally we have always had our work session the weekend after the Milwaukee show, so basically the 3rd weekend in Oct.

This year we might be trying to get some bridges re-built and are thinking of possibly late August. Maybe Sept, but do not want to compete with Haydays and also do not want to have it the same weekend as Superior Snow Club, which is typically the weekend after Haydays.

So I guess this would be an informal call-out to all you guys and gals that like to swing a hammer and run a saw. We will need some! I do plan to make a more formal announcement once a date as been set.

I've just got too many possible trip ideas. Want to take another camping trip in the next 4 or 5 weeks, thinking of a fall colors long weekend with my wife and one or two other trips to the UP for clean-up or just because. Problem is I know they all can't happen so if I can combine a couple events it would be great. I'd come for a "trail building" vs trail cleaning weekend if you get it set up. If you did both with one just before labor day and, the other in Oct may even be able to do both.

I have enjoyed coming up to help in the past, but if it is in August this year I will be out. Just too much going on. Sept. or Oct. is a possibility. We'll see after you set a date. I sure would hate to miss it.

Looks like my wife is willing to come up for a camping "fall colors" weekend but not a trail working weekend. Based on her school calendar it seems we'll come up the weekend of Oct 10-13 and I'm thinking of staying at McClain State Park. Will be on the edge of fall colors so I hope they're a little later, but I'd also like to make a trip for some trail work in either early-mid Sept or later Oct. Put something up when you figure it out.

August wouldn't work for us guys either. Sept. 20th weekend would work for the most amount of guys to come up. I am available on the 13 also. Oct 11 is open for me as well. It would be awesome to do something different like that.

Sept 20th works for me. Haydays is the 6th, so I guess that means Superior is the 13th, so the 20th should give you what you're looking for, but it is later than you talked about in the Journal. Not sure you'll get a better turnout earlier since Labor Day is the 1st this year.

Would you still be thinking working on a Friday and Saturday?

It will most likely be one of the last 2 weekends in Sept, or perhaps the first weekend in Oct.

I think it would probably be both Friday and Saturday.

I'm thinking our club Pres mentioned Trail Work for Superior Snowmobile Club would be 19th & 20th this year.
I'm checking it out and will post as a definite date.

It's looking like our bridge build/rebuild work session will be Sept 19-20. It is the only free weekend I have in Sept. I still need to check with the trail boss to make sure it works with him, but would say there is a very good chance it will be that weekend.

I know these places aren't right next door to each other, but it would be fun to figure out if one evening there could be a joint get together. Not sure about "trail politics" in the UP but for those of us coming to help out in many cases we ride both areas and know people both north and south so it would be fun if possible. Either way, looks like I'm booking that weekend to head north :)

Talked to the trail boss and we are set for Sept 19-20 for bridge repair work. Details as to where folks will be able to stay will follow, but leave the loppers and chainsaws at home this year and bring your hammers. :)

My anniversary is that weekend, so I am out. My wife will come before my sled addiction. It has been a blast in the past, so maybe again next year.

Well I brought up the subject with my wife and it brought one of those "another snowmobile weekend" type of comments. Did get the direction that I can't go until the hardwood flooring project is done at home. Shouldn't be a problem. The wood has been sitting in the dining room since January, probably acclimated to the house by now ;) so I guess I better stop with the excuses and start putting it in.

It'a always good to have a deadline, a little pressure to help a project move along!

I just confirmed with Superior Snowmobile Pres., Mike Sabo, and the week-end of the 19th & 20th is this clubs trail work week-end. I also posted this under "Events" In the past, the club did follow up with trail work week-end the week-end after Hay Days but with Hay Days being so early, the club decided to stay with "middle of the month."
More info will be posted in August under "EVENTS" but this gives everyone a chance to check on vacation time and by then we will have details planned for where and added details.
