Wife and I like St. Ignace, however there is more to do in Mackinaw City.
We stay at either the Budget Host Inn, or out at the Casino.
Either side is nice--You'll enjoy either.

In that case--I would go with Mackinaw.

St. Ignace has a more Mom and Pop 'feel' where as Mackinaw City has an overdeveloped 'big box' feel. Depends what you are looking for buy my wife and I always preferred the UP'er side.
