Homes evacuated after Lake Superior surge

Rented a VRBO home on Huron Bay a couple years back. Owner of the home warned us of keeping the boat up high enough because of this. In the week
we stayed the water levers varied up to just under 3ft.

Lake Erie is the worst for this. It's interesting seeing the water level in Buffalo go up, while Monroe goes down.

The storm systems winds will pile the water up on one side and it will drop in the other.

Just for comparison … Life in "Sunny Phoenix, AZ"

From NWS Phoenix: (click →) "Record rainfall & widespread flooding across Phoenix Metro Area".
(Last weekend, Sunday 9/7/2014; they're calling this a 1000 year flood event".)

I have personally experienced three "100-year flood events" in over 44 years in Phoenix. — "I never saw such trouble with water until I moved to da desert!"

This where the "normal" annual rainfall is something short of 8"!

In this case, the culprit was Hurricane Norbert moving up the coast of Baja California, and pumping much moisture into Arizona. I guess we can look forward to a repeat performance from Hurricane Odile next week, then tropical depression 16E soon after that. Maybe I should be building an ark.

Perverse twist of fate: A friend moved from Phoenix to New Orleans (Actually Mandeville, across from NOLA on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain) some years ago, post-Katrina. So now who gets the fallout of hurricanes? Go figure!

Well Frank, it looks like you folks are in for another round of "Tropical" weather real soon with Hurricane Odile, same track as Norbert might have run for higher ground! Good luck, stay dry.-Mezz
