Trail 11 south closed ***

GTRA already reporting that trail 11 south is closed due to logging for the second year in a row.
I've been using this trial for 10 years and there is always logging going on every season, so logging is not the reason it's not being groomed.
Can anyone tell what town or club is responsible for this trail?
For those not familiar with 11 south its connects to the Winchester, Presque Isle, Manitowish Waters area with Michigan and allows you to get to Marenesco and the Wakefield area. It runs south from trail 2.

I believe the club out of Ironwood is "responsible". I know they need help grooming and likely in other areas. Maybe this is the reason why it hasn't been open?

Who is GTRA?

I used to love that trail but haven't been on it in a few years.
It used to be in better groomed shape than trail 1 out of Presque Isle because that was the only way to get to the UP besides going all the way to Lando.

from the MSA website, updated yesterday morning "Trail 11 south has not been groomed or packed. As of now there are several beaver dams creating wet/hazardous conditions along with possible logging in the area."

The GRTA (Gogebic Range Trail Authority) is based out of Bessemer, MI, and is responsible for maintaining trail 11 South. If the trail has been closed for the season, it was done by the MI DNR (GRTA has very little say in the matter). The DNR works with the loggers/land owners of property to be logged, and then decides if the trail can remain open during logging operations (very unlikely), possibly be rerouted, or to close it. If they let the club know early enough, it may be possible to reroute the trail around the logging. Most of the time, the logging decisions come too late in the year (as this one did) to do anything about it. Hope this helps clear some things up.

Sounds like you better wear your "rubbers" if the beavers have it messed up......

This trail has been slow to open in the past. Apparently there is water areas where groomers get stuck so they leave it alone (frozen) until later in the year.

This is also the problem with Traill 11 North although that trail seems to have issues the whole year.
