7 Days No Snow

Beware that attiude took many of my buds out of the sport. Once you trade rental sled for ownership you will find your way out eventually... Nothing wrong with it just saying I saw that pattern repeated many times rental & out.

I know and agree, I am bumming out. I am 48 years old and have been riding since 1976 when my dad came home with a surprise; two used Ski-Doos and a trailer (a 70 TNT 440 and a 71 335 Olympique. Heck, even the trailer was a Ski-Doo trailer). If I quit sledding, I almost feel like I am betraying my dad.

Oh well 42 degrees here in Green Bay and my sled is out melting off the accumulated ice and snow, guess I will be ready for the next 3 hour drive to Munising to ride.

I am the last guy at work and my friends from way back that still owns a sled and rides consistently. I get a few friends that rent a day or two a year and do not want to become one of them.

Frank,

I knew it was gonna be bad when I got home from work at 6am and the temp was
already at 33. The forecasted high was 34 and as I get ready to go back in, it is
41 and all the snow on the deck is now gone. UGH!
But my buddy came to borrow my trailer so him 2 others could head North and play
while I was at work. So "Someone" is at least having fun! LOL!

Lets hope that "little" chance for the early week turns into something BIGGER! :)
Oh Ya,... and GO PACKERS! (what the heck,..)

THINK SNOW FOLKS!

:)

p.s.

Wave as you're drivin' by Gary!
:)

I live in central indiana. Its a 100% garauntee that we have to srive a minimum of 5 hours to make a trip north. Usually its a 6 hour drive. Or 9-12 hour drive to the UP. Heck we drove 16.5 hours to wyoming a couple weeks ago but it was worth it. But ya, if i lived north of say grand rapids, mi ---- osh kosh, wi type of line i would be depressed. But atleast you guys can make a quick drive north for a day or 2 day ride. This current weather pattern we are in sucks for sure
But most of us should have seen it coming. The past few seasons have been epic. So law of averages says we were due for a lackluster season.....atleast to this point. We are
Gonna have to change our destination for our jan 28 trip as it looks right now. Planned to head to wellston, mi but will probably head to seney, mi area instead. I sold the wifes sled at the beginning of the season, she wasnt going to be able to ride this season. I figured i would just buy her another next year but now i think for the next few years that i will just rent her a sled. We only make a trip once per year together. And it rarely snows around here. Except the last 2 years. But with 2 kids under 3 years old, and both of us working full time, it makes it hard to get time to ride around here anyways. I will always own 1 sled. When we do get the big snows here its the only way to get around for a couple days

Already 39* here in south central WI, bright sunshine, going to 44*. Gotta admit it, I like the warm sunny days. If Feb holds true, we'll get some snow that comes and goes quickly. We'll be lucky to see a full week of open trails around here anymore this season. This is why I don't miss owning a sled anymore. I get much more enjoyment out of the motorcycle. And hey, if it does snow enough, I'll hop in the groomer and get my snow fix.

Jeez folks, quit yer bitchin. Lets keep a little perspective here, and look at the glass half full instead of half empty.

Snowmobiling is a privilege, not a right. (Think I saw that on a trail sign somewhere!)

We all have apparently done well enough in our lives to have the financial resources to be able to snowmobile, we have jobs, we have money for computers or smart phones or whatever electronic contraptions we use to access this site, and we have the health to be able to go snowmobiling. Most of us also have some common sense (at least the Packers fans, not so much the Bears fans.

Would the world end tomorrow if we couldn't snowmobile? I am guessing not.

Hello,

Two things keep me living on Green Bay, WI; it is an NFL town and snowmobiling. Without snow, the cold is not worth staying for as I can always move to Phoenix. It is on my mind each year we have a low snow year.

I am no Sierra Club member but who wants to discuss "Global Warming"?

I have lived in CA, MN and grew up in Green Bay, WI from 1976-1993 and do not remember the multi winter warm weather, week-long meltdowns that devastate snowpack. Heck, it snowed to beat **** in November from here to Copper Harbor and then it rained and warmed up for 10 days to two weeks and now it is warm again. To me some John Dee stats should support a trend somewhere. Seems to me it is the warm-ups not a lack of precipitation.

Exactly take away the sleddin & I'm long gone in FL somewhere fishing, boating, soaking up the sun the only thing that keeps me here is snowmobiling. No sleddin & UP goes broke + northern WI will suffer big time too. Snowmobiling no small thing north of Wausau very important to winter economics.

It's now 7 days since a snowfall report has been posted. It is also Jan 15th and trails across central Wisconsin haven't even opened. Pretty bummer of a year for those of us who enjoy riding these areas.

Holy Poop!
Two Harleys just drove by. It's 39 in Green Bay, we lost 50% of our snow in the last two days and the Packers are kicking off, bye bye.

Hey Frank, I live in the coldest city in the lower 48 (I saw it in the internet) so I may not mind a little global warming, but last year was one of our coldest winters on record and also for the whole year, this winter we have not had much snow, less than 10 inches for the season, but it still has been average or below for temps. Snow in November is going to melt most years in your area, and the temps are almost always warmer with less or no snow pack. I also like to ride from home and don't like to trailer but some years you have to. That is just the way it is.

Fair enough. I just have to stop buying a new sled each year and then get into renting.

BRING ON SPRING!

Hey! Why not?
Heck, this last "thaw" has gotten rid of all the snow now (40 miles N. of Green Bay)
The forecast calls for 1 inch here and there every "once and a while" so who wants
that? Just messes up the roads. Melts off anyways. Tomorrow is the 20th already,
and that only gives ya the paltry month of February and a couple sloppy weeks of
crappy March. Bring on Spring!
Leave all the snow to the U.P.!
I've got my sticker,.....
I'm supposedly RICH enough to afford this sport,...
So I can Trailer the darn thing 3 hours on my 1 day off like the rest of the midwest,...
What the heck!

Actually, I am going to Batteries Plus,... and getting some new
batteries for our battery powered toy snowmobiles,...
I think crashing them into the leaf piles will be more enjoyable than
the real thing anyway!! :)

El Nino'
I just wish I wouldn't have sold MY bike. Just saw one drive by also.
Then a truck pulling 2 sleds. Too funny.

Seriously though,...
You can have the "dustings" or the 2" clipper snows that melt the next day
this time of year. If we can't get an 8 incher or so, to at least make the club
some money, Forget it.

I have to track my trailer down!
:)

geeeez some of you guys need a case of saltines to go with all that wine. you can afford a new sled but don't want to haul even to Bergland?- we rode on and off trial around Bergland this weekend - the off trial was very deep and the trials were good too- at least in the morning- it was snowing hard when we left Sunday afternoon . come on man!

Not to mention the brine they put down on a sunny day or two before we get that one inch of snow. Holy poop, you can't even get the damn car washed anymore in the winter.

Call the Waaaaaaaaaahmbulance. Plenty of snow. Gas is cheap. Drive North.

I like the waambulance, just laughed.

Time is more valuable the older we get and harder to come by. Sometimes I wish I was 30 again as I had the perfect gig back then; new sled every other year and three days off a week. I was one of the first "Sno-Goer" 2,000 mile club a year pin earners. Riding that 1997 Indy 500 seemed awesome!

Love the waaambulance reference also!

Guess he didn't see the humor sarcasm intent,...
and the make sure ya keep the snow up north,....
and the me "tracking down my trailer part".
Maybe they can come and work my 16hrs for me so
I can go also! :)

Oh well.
Just got back from driving an hour away and the trails were shot.
But I tried.
Maybe next week I'll get up to Amasa or further,.. if I don't get called in.
But for now I'm going to start supper for the Mrs. and find some wine for my saltines!
:)

Think Snow!
