4 stroke oil in an oil injected Polaris (OOPs!)

Some elderly friends of mine put 4 stroke oil in their oil injected sleds by mistake. Pretty sure over a quart+ in both. They put on about 50 miles already!!! Suck it out or just keep adding 2 stroke oil? What kind of damage could take place?

If it was me, I would siphon it out. I don't think 4 cycle oil mixes right with the fuel, and may not hold up to the burn. Best bet to replace it with proper oil

Mix the fuel tank 50-60:1 and run it. Maybe make sure you have some extra spark plugs. Probably work better for the crank bearings, might not burn as well. Clean the exhaust valves after tank is gone, or just do it after seasons over if top RPM don't change.

Keep in mind adding oil to your fuel effectively leans your fuel/air ratio. That would be fine most of the time but considering the bitter cold temps we are experiencing it is probably not worth the risk. I would suck out as much oil as possible. Completely fill with proper oil and be done with it

Thanks for the replies! Gonna get this done for them this weekend. Sounds like the best course of action is to suck the oil out of there, add proper 2 stroke oil and run a 50/60:1 mix in the first tank of gas. Still not sure if 4 stroke will clog up the oil injection system but I'll see if the oil level is dropping properly during the 1st tank of gas. Not gonna ride them until it warms up a bit to be safe. Gonna have to hide those blue jugs of Polaris ATV 4 stroke oil from them!!!!!! I even found a quart of it in the back of one of the sleds!!!!!

If you found a quart in the back of one of the sleds, I'm guessing that isn't the first quart they've put in the oil tank.

4 stroke oil in a two stroke will not damage anything. It will foul the spark plugs quite easily and the reason for the 2 stroke oil formulation.

Just drain the oil tank as best you can, fill with the proper oil. I would not add any oil to the gas tank but instead change the spark plugs and carry an extra set.

I know of a guy that used Pennzoil 4 stroke oil in his 87 Indy trail on a regular basis. When in a pinch he would throw chaincase oil in once in awhile. It didn't matter with that sled. It ran about 10000 miles. Of course things are a little different nowadays but any oil is better than none.
