So far ATVs have not done much in Vilas ...never see any out and about. Phelps bar owners say Atvs has not increased biz that much....maybe a little & every little bit helps in resort towns.

I don't want to speak for the bar owners over in Hayward, where we ATV the most, but I would agree it seems to have done little. The trail system is just very difficult to setup. Road riding is exactly very exciting and theres a lot of that to connect the trails. Once the snow melts and ground thaws its amazing to see what type of trail you are actually riding. theres lots of marshes and wet areas that are passable in winter but not in the summer. I hope a system does work out, its a really fun to run the ATV's.

Why buy a job. For the money one can just retire up there. The houses are dirt cheap.

I agree - assuming the park view loses money every year (otherwise they would be open) what is the value of the property? I guess if you had a 100 kids and could fill the place up....

The area near the Park View and Krupps is a year round destination area imo, but not only for tourists. Golf course, state park several inland lakes, Lake Superior and of course the Bill Nichols. Busy M26 right out the front door.

Several years ago when I was going to buy the Golden Harp, I did a snowmobile count. Mid week, in Jan. over 200 sleds per hour came through. Many variables of course to traffic, but good volume.

200 sleds per hour mid week??? Going past the Park View?? What decade was that? I ride mid week and most times see just a handful of sleds all day.

ya the place was packed for 10 winter weekends - now for the other 42 ... like someone else said you need the locals for a regular place to eat ( I thought the food was good) wedding rec and business meetings, but not a lot of room for meetings and receptions so maybe add on ?!!

Don't count weddings, shotguns not allowed.

We stopped there one time and the service was horrendous. Couldn't find anyone to take the order and then disappeared after our food was dropped off for and couldn't find anyone to give us the bill. Place was quiet too. Not sure what happened that day but too bad we never stopped there again. Hope someone can inject some new blood into that place.

It's simple, you have to want to work. And then there's that little thing called customer service... Places that have it are doing well, places that don't go bye bye.

Bar and grill and gas and lodging biz all good businesses if you want to be a slave. Lots of work, lots of expensive equipment and you might have a chain with seemingly endless resources for competition. Seasonal bar and grill and gas and lodging completely insane if there is no local support. Go and try to get a loan for a seasonal service business. There is no realistic business plan for such a thing. It is not a question of who will reopen. It is more of a question on who will be left in a few more years. Ad to that the uncertainty of rideable snow. There is a reason so many bars in the northwoods burn.

We stopped going their for the reason red_dog and polarismike stated.

if you're considering buying the Parkview, take a look at the "Da Flowage" also

The Flowage wasn't on a main drag, we always stopped their after Bonds Fall stop. I think that is the main reason it failed ,in addition service was slow and the food wasn't that good.

I think service is key, there are many places we stop in and the service is crap, really slow. That can make or break a business. Plus attitude is a big factor as well. I love Krupps and the Mosquito when we are up there, those 2 places make it because they have good service and make you feel welcome.

Da Flowage is a shame although betwix & between for me on snowmobile routes so would maybe use it once in Fall. I'm not sure the customer thruput is possible to make money year round.
